About time. Still think there'll be a downtown Brooklyn location soon.

All those bemoaning hippies/hipsters coming to the area because of the new Apple Store: these very hippies/hipsters are one of the reasons this location was chosen.

Planning on stopping by for opening day since I'll already be spending time art hopping in Brooklyn.

Brooklyn's actually blowing up now. Lot of people moving there and it's a nice neighborhood for the most part.[/QUOTE

so long as your in brownstone or south Brooklyn. Apple won't be putting a store in Brownsville or east New York anytime soon.

As for the potential Downtown Apple Store location, I wonder what will go into the large retail space under construction at 66 Boerum (at Atlantic Ave.). That space will be ready in a few months. There was speculation a few years ago that Apple would open up a store there. The location would be perfect for serving Downtown, Boerum Hill, Cobble Hill and Brooklyn Heights. Even people in Park Slope would be only a short ride away on the F/G train (Bergen Street) or the B63 bus which stops right outside the door. The Borough Hall/Metrotech stations are a short walk away as well with multiple subway lines (2,3,4,5,R,A,C,F).

Kind of annoying that it's in Williamsburg. I suppose that's central to the Williamsburg-Greenpoint-LIC-Bushwick crowd, but I would have much preferred something closer to Flatbush Ave. Still quicker for me to go to Prince St. or 14th St.

That's a false assumption. This area of Brooklyn is actually very hip, and pricey may I add. Rent can be anywhere from 2K for studio to 3-4K a month for 1-2 bedroom. Wish they opened up something in south bk.

Actually, Williamsburg is becoming more like Hoboken/Murray Hill and some of that "hipness" is being lost as the area becomes flooded with financial bros, clueless basics, tourists and potentially parked foreign money. The truth is when an area becomes too expensive for the average person, it becomes dull for some people. A lot of "luxury" hi-rise development is also at fault as many of those units remain unused for most of the year because many are used to park foreign money. New York is a major "safe harbor" for rich foreigners and the nearly empty towers can create a ghost town feel to an area as opposed to a vibrant middle-class neighborhood. For the past few years this was contained to Manhattan, but now the waterfront of Williamsburg and other neighborhoods in Brooklyn are being targeted.

Correct me if I'm wrong... does Apple released new Apple product (example - rMBP upped specs, etc.) each time new store opened?

no

would it be correct to assume that the apple store isn't opening in the hood part of brooklyn?

Brooklyn has roughly the same population as Chicago
heh, right..
fwiw, if brooklyn became its own city, it would be the 3rd largest city in the u.s... and very nearly the 2nd largest u.s city.

(it would be L.A then Chicago then Brooklyn)

I hear Brooklyn's a pretty dodgy area.
right.. L.A Dodgers used to be Brooklyn Dodgers.
..because it's dodgy.

Oh, okay. Maybe I was thinking of the Bronx.
maybe you're thinking of manhattan or queens?

interestingly enough, according to this map at least, the new apple store is in one of the higher crime areas of brooklyn and/or the city.

I was imaging it more near Atlantic Termina/Flatbush and Willoughby, where there's a ton of upscale places going in.

Wonder if Apple will up the security.
Hah, my wife's aunt owns a $2M apartment in Brooklyn over near Dumbo/Vinegar Hill. It's quite high-end in some areas. I love Brooklyn. There are some great little places to eat all around too that are mid to sometimes higher end. I never felt insecure anywhere in Brooklyn. I remember stopping by Etsy's old office last time we were there, and they're really flourishing in their new space in the same neighborhood: http://www.fastcodesign.com/3062010/making-it/etsys-new-headquarters-will-fill-you-with-envy

I didn't realize how nice Brooklyn was until I spent some time in that area. I came away feeling surprised that I wouldn't mind living there if I had the money and ability. The people were super nice. I probably wouldn't stay for more than a few years because I'm a Midwestern guy and need my space, but it would be neat to spend a few years there. I love the art and design community, as well as the food. Maybe in a couple decades after the kids graduate college. Idk.

Brooklyn isn't NYC.

I'm excited for the WTC to open, as it will be close to my office.

Only tourists and obnoxious yuppies from Manhattan think that. Real, middle-class people live in the outer boroughs. THAT, my friend, is NYC. Manhattan is a Potemkin village for tourists, and a center of business and the arts. It doesn't even remotely reflect real NYC.

I'm extremely excited for this. There are TONS of Apple fans in Brooklyn, and it's about time we got some recognition.

That's weird because my Brooklyn birth certificate thinks otherwise. It legit says "The City of New York". I bet you wouldn't know since I'm sure you weren't born here (in any borough for that matter). It must sting to know no matter how you try to downplay Brooklyn it'll always be a vital entity for the city =)

As an Apple fan I'm extremely happy my borough is getting a store (and not a mall location like Queens + Staten Island)! Albeit in Williamsburg, but it's the first step. With all the new construction happening in DoBro I can see more store locations in the near future. Either Empire Stores in Dumbo or some where near Barclays Center since foot traffic is always high over there (even before the arena). Or maybe even near the BAM Cultural District. Anywhere would be nice with more transit options than the L.

Hopefully the next store will be more centralized, but I'm grateful for this first store!

Learn to take a joke people.

But it's pretty funny how you made the same judgement about someone who lives in Manhattan that you are complaining about.

I don't know if Apple realises this, but its not 2001 any more. They don't have to infinitely expand their retail stores. People are very used to buying online now . I am not against Apple stores in every city, I am against Apple stores in every corner.

This is not Starbucks, if someone wants to buy a computer they will take the effort to drive that 20min.
