Presumably these numbers only show turnover, ie sales. They are not representative of profit. Although given the premium prices charged by Apple it would not surprise me if this showed similarly healthy growth.

..and yet they couldn't be bothered to put a half-decent screen in their macbook.

Scrooginess at its worst.

Desktop sales will decrease year on year now, I reckon things are moving much more portable.

Apple's problem on the desktop is they only offer speciality products while their notebooks are mainstream designs. Apple's notebooks have this LCD screen that folds over to cover a keyboard just like all normal notebooks. But on the desktop there is no normal mainstream design. They only off an "all in one", a small non-upgradable brick and an ultra expensive machine. Nothing at all that would appeal to the mainstream computer buyer.

I don't think so. More and more people are working from home so they don't need a portable. And laptops still can't contain as much storage space and processing power as desktops. I think they'll grow at an equal rate. Many people like having a desktop at home and a laptop for the road.

Now that is some serious money!

I wouldn't say that Apple are "dodging the bullet" exactly, but they are providing essential products that everyone wants.
Even with people spending less the Apple products will sell, especially with christmas round the corner, these figures will go even higher and quite quickly with the new MB, MBP and the lower price on the iPod Touch too.

i definitely wanna buy more apple stuff
but the price really puts me off having more of it
guess that what makes apple seem so attractive, in some ways
not everyone can afford to be that cool
