Apple's Five-Year-Old Twitter Account Gets Active Ahead of September 7 Event [Updated]

I'm guessing Apple is going to have a lot of negative criticism afterwards trying to get by a third year with that 6 series design that sports a huge downgrade in losing the headphone jack. There isn't enough tweets to spin that into something.

Cook is pulling a twitter string here and there to see where it takes him.

Why spend a lot of engineering money on the product when people will line up to buy it anyway? They could re-release the iPhone 6s in new colors missing the headphone jack and people would go nuts over it. Cook knows the brand alone will sell the phone so of course he's gonna squeeze it for every penny.

The iPhone sells because it's an iPhone. Whatever they do to it doesn't really matter.

I wouldn't be surprised if Apple are just changing their pictures to create hype, so that MacRumours can start a pointless thread about Apple changing their Twitter profile and cover picture.

Good god. Get over the freaking design already or don't buy it. Its that simple.

I definitely wouldn't spend money on it but iphones are free for me. I'll sell it or use current. I can't imagine the mindset of someone wanting to spend hundreds on this gimped iphone 6S though. For most users, the SE just has much better value as the fastest current iphone. Hopefully Apple gets back to basics in 2017.

Why worry about the product that basically provides most of your revenue? The iphone is Apple's most important product next to Macs (another that gets neglected). Sales have fallen. Their marketshare isn't as great as you think it is. Besides, who lines up for these anymore? Apple will of course limit supply in order to create the illusion of a lot of demand early but they can only play that game so long.

I am certain Apple will have a lot of incredible announcements.

Yeah, I mean they haven't announced any new watch bands since June!

I'm also convinced there will be a lot more to the iPhone 7 upgrade than people are expecting.

Put simply: there had better be, or the only thing saving the iPhone will be Samsung's misfortunes with their Galaxy Note 7 SpaceX edition.

Looking at the image for the event, I wonder if it means that they're going OLED...

Dropping the headphone jack may not be quite the apocalypse for users that some claim, but its certainly not an upgrade: that "feature" should have been kept back for the major re-design rumoured to be coming next year.

Really!? Why? The rumours all suggest it will be one of the least exciting ever. iPhone not a significant update, apple watch not a significant update, unlikely to be macs mentioned.
Unless of course you are into lots of time being taken up talking about fantastic beats headphones using a lightning connector / wireless.

I'll be thrilled to be wrong though.

Maybe, just maybe, OP likes the things he's heard about a device that will fit his needs, he has the opportunity and relevant funds to buy the thing that fits his needs and is excited about the opportunity to purchase that device. Rule one of understanding User Experience: you are not everybody, and everybody else has their own opinions and requirements not necessarily in sync with your opinions and needs.

Looking at your footer, you appear to be in a similar position to me. You have a set of relatively good spec equipment that runs well and naturally it should take something bigger than usual to make you upgrade. No need to ruin the excitement of someone who is further down their upgrade cycle than you, just be glad that someone else IS excited. Because if there was no one at all then we would be in trouble.

Agreed. The 6/6s design is a good one, no need to bring out a new design with a different set of flaws to deal with in the S version, especially when the 2017 edition is going to be the 10th Anniversary edition or whatever. It'll have a new processor, more ram (in the Plus), waterproofing (most likely considering the 6S) and a new camera. To me, anything else is a cherry with sprinkles on top. The only time I use headphones is for working out, and those are Bluetooth already because who the heck wants to lift/run with cords in the way, so the loss of the jack doesn't bother me. I feel like people on these tech blogs forget that we are not the typical consumers and that our disappointments with new tech are not necessarily the general public's disappointments. If anything the general public might like the fact that one's phone doesn't look outdated after two years, and I'm sure there are probably a number of 5S owners who haven't updated yet.

It'll be interesting to see the sales numbers for the 7/7s in Canada - with the current exchange rates, purchasers will have to put out close to $600 UP FRONT for a iPhone 7 64GB on a 2-year contract.

Maybe MacRumors hacked the account, made the changes, and posted an article. Look at all the hits MacRumors is getting from it!

It's at this time i really wish there was a clapping emoji. I totally agree with you, i cant believe how superficial people are being over a design, something they wont be looking at that much anyway, since most the time is spent looking at the FRONT of the phone. I don't even think it looks that bad. It hasn't even been announced yet.

Exactly, i think the dual camera alone will be worth the upgrade.

2017 will be worth the wait for the new design with any luck. Still duel camera does excite me and I hope it is as good as Apple are likely hoping.

Either way those on the 6s you still have a great device so just wait another year if you don't think it's worth ut

I have $450 in ear headphones. I'm not ditching them. I wear them all day long. So, this is an issue.

Design is partly why Apple products are so desired. And for better or worse, Apple has positioned itself as a fashion brand and fashion is all about superficiality.

Although I can really appreciate apple's industrial design, for me, it's more about functionality. I need to use OSX, Windows and Linux every day and I can't carry more than 2 with me and it would be silly. That leaves me with a Mac as the only viable option.
