If the rumor is accurate and it uses two UTG layers, then that seems to be different. Still searching for details on the fold 8 ultra’s screen, though.

This season of YouTube iPhone "reviews" (really just promo videos masquerading as reviews) will be hilarious I'm sure.

So how will Apple's new ceo introduce this?
Jobs style would be presenting the phone in all its glory and then mentioning the patents on it that they will vigorously defend.
Cook style would be someone else presenting the phone and then discussing some of the technical advantages of it. Be sure to include a diagram or two.

For me the test will be going into the local carrier store in a few months and seeing whether the display model even works.
But based on peoples' reaction to the latest Samsung foldable, I think it's going to sell well, crease or no.
Apparently most people are not nearly as sensitive to display quality and "defects" as I am.

Face ID doesn’t make sense with two screens. You’d need two Face ID modules as well.

Mark Gurman says the Ultra still has a visible crease, "comparable to Samsung", so I'm not all that hyped about this.
Lots of comments here referencing Apple vis a vis innovation and being the first. From where I stand, Apple's secret sauce is removing friction. Personal line command computers are responded to with the first graphical interface Mac, MP3 players are responded to with iPod; cellular phones are responded to with iPhone, folding phones are responded to with the creasekess Apple Ultra. It's never about leading, it's about removing friction in products and workflows. Sometimes removing that friction results in innovation, but only incidentally on the way to the main goal--a better user experience.
The Elec reports that Google, Oppo, and Vivo plan to adopt ultra-thin glass (UTG) in their foldable phones next year, following Apple's lead. Apple's book-style iPhone Ultra, expected to be unveiled next week, reportedly uses two UTG layers, with the display sandwiched between them, isolating it from direct contact with the hinge.
The method, pioneered by Apple, is meant to spread mechanical stress across multiple layers to improve durability and reduce visible creasing over time. The UTG layers will be mass produced for Apple's rivals by Samsung, for wide adoption in 2027.

So crease will be there! Good to know. Foldable flippable displays need to prove themselves beyond damages or at least cheaper replacement options (Samsung charges nearly 40% of the mobile phone cost for replacement). I shall observe it for 3-4 iterations beyond spending fortune! Even then foldable will be bulkier in pockets than normal phone.

Tested the Samsung version that came out a month ago or so. I liked the format.
As for foldable in general. I'm concerned with breaking the display. I already broke my MacBook display because something got accidentally in between while closing the lid. Cost me 900 bucks to fix.

I mean... you could just put the FaceID module under the smaller screen, but that also makes sense, I guess. 🤷♂️
I no longer wait for reviews when it comes to Apple products. I just buy it asap.

That means any time you’d have to use the face ID sensor to authenticate, you’d have to close the device? Then reopen the device?
I mean, if you strictly use FaceID to unlock the iPhone Ultra, and you close it every time you don't use it. But as I already said, he made sense.

Agree the second and third revision will be really polished versions. I remember sitting out the iphone x, and waiting for the xs max. that was a great upgrade from the 8 plus.

You mean that Samsung dispplay leads and since Apple is their biggest customer, they could twist Samsung’s arm into giving Apple a one year exclusivity.
