Why must this type of comment keep happening. Just because YOU don’t see a need, doesn’t mean there is none. If you don’t want one, fine. Buy the usual slab and be happy about it!

I enjoy the pocketability of an iPhone mini, and love the utility of a larger screen. This could provide both. Basically an iPad mini (or close to an iPhone Max) that folds in half and fits in my pocket. Sounds wonderful to me!
Can you just please explain what problem it solves and why you think the market wants the utility of a larger screen for ~2x the price?

I’ve tried a few foldables for the retailers. Pixel Fold 2, two Samsung Folds.

They are awesome and really like them and an ideal small tablet size and applications on both sides and dragging and dropping etc, and Gmail etc are great. The newest Galaxy Fold and the Fold Pro 2 are very comfortable to use just the outer screen.

But the cameras are average. Cases make the phones legitimate bricks. You handle them like eggs regardless and throwing the phone in a bag or pocket or outdoors, you have to worry about dust etc getting in there, case or not.

Yes all are iterations are improving in those categories, but top it off by the fact you can get a true flagship + a small tablet for less. In that setup, no concerns about dust and moisture. Still have the small tablet experience. Top end cameras on the phone.

Folding IPhone will be the same; you’ll be able to get a 18 Pro, paired up with an Oled Mini for a bit less then a folding IPhone but have more flexibility and peice of mind.

I just want to buy half of the fold. They could also make it where it transforms into the full fold once two halves shared by 2 spouses are joined 🥳
Don't give Apple ideas.

They might just make the Fold sold in two parts.

2x the price, 1x the phone.

Hopefully it will be very durable as repair prices will definitely be sky high and even having an AppleCare plan might not reduce the repair prices by a lot. Looking forward to seeing the first foldable from Apple.

Your question is like asking what problem tablets like the iPad Mini solve, some things are done better on screens larger than a phone like reading, productivity tasks, content consumption and so on. A foldable is just a way to bring that device with you at all times.

You mean Apple didn't come to you for your opinion, but instead probably utilised millions of dollars of research based on the world market?

Products don't suit everybody, it's clear you feel you don't need a foldable, great, but the world is not you.
Some people may want one.

I bought a Pixel 10 Pro Fold a few weeks ago, got it for a bargain price, almost half price at £875 (brand new), I switched from a regular Pixel 9 Pro, when the device is folded it is no more than a couple of millimetres thicker, not even noticeable, yet when it's open it's very thin, easy to hold and I've found it excellent when I'm working away to watch movies / TV shows on.

So yes, it won't be for everyone, but that doesn't mean there isn't a market for them. I'm fairly sure when Apple first announced AirPods they were ridiculed a lot, look at us now, everyone wears them.

You theoretically could do exactly that with a Selectric I/O machine & a few custom parts that are out there but it would be very expensive & technically challenging. You’d likely be better off with a modern custom made keyboard & there are a few companies making keyboards for that niche market. 🤷
It wouldn’t have the same hum and motorized clack of the typing ball to go with it though. Plus there was something about the key return that I haven’t felt on any other keyboard.

The IBM M keyboard is my next favorite keyboard. Unfortunately I missed my chance to nab one at my job when they were replaced.

yep always case on here people don't like change and don't like new things when they cost more. theres a reason it costs me it's basically a 2 in 1 device. slab phones will always exist but techies will no doubt want this and i will be replacing my pro max with it.

Liquid metal? Not the same stuff that destroys laptops I hope.
It's supposed to have a dam around it but if you shake your laptop or even stand it on end, it gets out and then you have shorts everywhere.
They can't mean that stuff it's a nightmare.

No, it isn’t that stuff, or Apple’s SIM ejector tool wouldn’t be made from it.

Ah, been years since a good Liquid Metal rumor lol. They used it in the Sim ejector tool for a while and I and a lot of people assumed they were scaling up production to use in a larger product, but then they quietly switched it back to steel. I remember all the Liquid Metal macbook rumors and renders.

Funny this looked insanely sleek and futuristic now, and commonplace to dated now
