I know how you feel. I get antsy just waiting for books to arrive with free shipping from Amazon, let alone a new mac.

I think I will buy mine right from the Apple store in Yorkdale mall when I'm ready....that way I wont have to freak out waiting for it.

Agreed. There's something about seeing it IRL, buying it with cash, and having instant gratification that can never be replaced by the web.

Sadly, I live about three kilometers north of the middle of nowhere, and ordering stuff over the web is slowly becoming my friend.

You can pay for expedited shipping.

On another note... I have ordered many products from Apple (probably over 20 or 25 by now), and have never had a shipping issue.

There have been delays, yup. There have been border hassles, customs hassles, and yes, even 1 lost package that was found two days later. It is free shipping... whatever, it will get here eventually. If I wanted something faster, I paid for expedited shipping and voila, it came faster.

Things like this just aren't worth me losing sleep over, so I don't. If I had issues like taking days off of work for a package, then I would either just have them deliver the package to my work, or not deliver it to my home on a certain day. If it was a job where I wasn't there, I would give the courier company the name and signing authority of someone at work who was there. Most companies will also allow you to pick up from some points.

I have had great success also, such as two powerbooks, both custom builds arriving each time from Shanghai to where I live in about 5 days (standard shipping). The second one was to replace the first one, which had a stuck pixel.

Your computer will arrive eventually. In the meantime remember, your blood pressure and chance of stroke is more important than your computer!!!!

And here it sits. Floating in nowhere land.

This is a PowerMac we're talking about - not a trivial shipment. I'd show up at their nearest distibution center with a lawyer and threaten to sue if it doesn't arrive in 48 hours.

Also, I really hate FedEx. They never, ever leave packages at my door, despite repeated attempts at leaving the waiver signed. They just put up a new blank one.

UPS I've also had problems with, but not near as serious.

Whenever possible I ship USPS. I've never had trouble with them.

Mactruck I learned that since FedEx changed to private home delivery (owner/operator) thier service has gone down hill. See if you can locate where the damn driver lives and go pick it up. If not hopefully you'll see it Monday.

Duff-Man says.....MacTruck - I too would be somewhat irked if I were in your shoes. That is not acceptable service from FedEx. After your computer arrives and checks out okay, make sure you give feedback to both FedEx *and* Apple about the shipping service. Be firm, stick to the facts and be polite about it - they'll not listen at all to a raving rant. It may not change FedEx's habits but if Apple gets enough complaints about them they may switch to a better carrier or they may let FedEx know they are not happy - Apple does a lot of business with them and perhaps FedEx may listen to a large corporate customer.....oh, and enjoy the computer when it gets there....oh yeah!

FINALLY GOT IT.

Beautiful is all I can say and works perfectly (so far). I immediately tested it with all the ram and hard drives from the 2.5ghz I have here now that I am taking back. I ran the BCC 1080 HD video to see if it plays ok and guess what? It didn't. Choppy crappy video. Then I realized, I still had the Geforce FX card in there. Took it out and put in my x800xt card and then tried again. FLUID AND GORGEOUS. So the video card plays a big role in quicktime playback I see.

Ran the Photoshop test on that horse and got 58 seconds. My 2.5ghz got 47 seconds. So not that bad.

The computer came all rapped up like new, clear plastic all perfect and no dust inside. Only thing is the sticker at the bottom with the serial number under the clear door is all sticky. They didn't peel it off all the way. And apple replaced the long SN sticker with a real small white refurb siticker.

So, Taking back the 2.5ghz and getting my $2700 back and keeping the Dual 2ghz refurb. Paid $1599 on apple refurb site. Got $50 off for wanting to change my mind about ordering it.

NICE.

A HAPPY ENDING. FEDEX STILL SUCKS!

And a decent lawyer would laugh at you for wasting his time. I don't think we need anymore frivelous law suits. Suck it up, stop being a baby, and go out with your friends or family. It's just a computer. Life is too short for this kind of whiney crap.

Not for a $3000+ loss (although this instance was cheaper than I had originally thought). We're talking a serious chunk of change here, and I wouldn't call a lawsuit over losing $3000 frivalous. Getting a gajillion dollars for it would be, but getting your money back from FedEx + lawsuit expenses is more than reasonable. "Oopsie, we lost your $3000 computer, but suck it up and stop being a baby." Um, no, you're paying me back or I'll use the legal system to get it back - but don't worry, it's only $3000, so suck it up and stop being a baby as you open your wallet and hand my money over.

(By the way, I happen to know a lot of lawyers as friends. I could easily ask one of them to show up somewhere with me and they'd do it for free. Considering the prices large companies pay to their own lawyers, that's often enough to get them to pay up because it's cheaper than going to court.)

It is free delivery. Don't complain. Mine came free delivery and was hear in a reasonable amount of time (10 days). Be patient. Breath in. Breath out. oooommmmm....

Keep it up, let the pressure built up and those veins in your neck buldge.

I'm just waiting to see the result of the overpressure situation ...

Any company's free shipping sucks, in my opinion. I just bought a bluetooth headset from Amazon, free shipping. Ordered it on the 4th, 2 day air option said the 9ths guarenteed. Freeshipping estimate says the 15th. It has been sitting on the dock until this morning, when it finally left their warehouse. And I am positive that I will get it on monday, tuesday at the latest- it's onbly 30 minutes away. :)

Kind of expect it to at least get here.

You got it didn't you! Just be thankful that you didn't have to go through the entire process of claiming a lost item and having to explain it to Apple, and then have to start all over again!

I have to say that my experience with apples free shipping here in Europe (UK) by TNT has been shocking for a profesional courier, free or not. I ordered a 6gig iPod from the UK apple store and it took an age for it to dispatch (fair enough it is free) but when it did arrive they handed it to a neigbour living across the street whom i did not know and left no card in our door saying where it was.

I mean this was one of the cheaper apple products you could have bought and if it was the 15inch Powebook i plan on buying later this summer i would just about have a heart attack, it was bad enough with a £169 iPod, seeing on the shipping update that it had been signed by someone unknown to me.

That bieng said i hope this was an isolated incident and hasnt happened to anyone else if so i think apple should swap courier companies because this type of service is completely unacceptable.

I agree.

And none of this is really free. Lets face it, Apple is paying Fedex from the money people pay for their computers.

And FedEx is PAID to deliver a package, and whether you, or Apple, pay for the delivery is irrelevent. They're not doing anybody free favours. They get paid money to deliver packages. FedEx gets paid to deliver packages within the time they tell you, and it is unacceptable to get it late AND have bad excuses thrown at you.

Oh and by the way, my wife pointed out something quite disturbing that I missed in my box opening exitement. There are 2 foot prints on the top of the box. Boot prints actually. So obvoiusly this jerkoff delivery guy used this as a step stool in the truck or did it intentionally because I called to find out where it was. POOR SERVICE. Its really sad.

Shenzhen

I was interested in this message since I am waiting for my mini to get here, and I picked the ominous free-shipping. I checked the fedex tracking and it said:

Jul 11, 2005 3:32 PM Shipment exception
SHENZHEN CN
Improper or missing international paperwork, contact Customer Service

Of course I contacted customer service, and they just said there was nothing to worry about, that sometimes they put that code on lots of stuff before it leaves china since its not yet on its way to the U.S.
Ok...Anyone else get this before in their tracking info?

Christine
