Apple's Home Services Head Departs Company After Two Years

Honestly, my expectations here are so low that I’d be happy if they could just get my HomePod mini back to being as functional as it was a year ago. I’m really tired of my updates ending on “And now…” and it not recognizing when my iPhone is next to it and not transferring over the music I’m playing.

I‘ve found the Home experience over the last few years to have gone downhill, at least in my experience. Maybe his departure will be in Apple’s interest.

So many bugs, especially with iOS 15 and macOS Monterey, it’s nearly impossible for me to set scenes in the Home app without it automatically switching all my lights to white.

So many smart home competitors seem to be doing better for half the price, it’s a shame a company like Apple cannot perfect the smart home
Agreed. I like the easy integration of all my devices but they are seriously lagging in making it accessible, affordable, or easy.

There’s several automated things in my house I’m using homebridge and sometimes raspberry pis for because there’s no homekit compatible item, the fact that I *still* can’t use airplay 2 with multiple targets as a general output on macs is absurd, and the fact that siri integration in new devices is just becoming a thing and requires a homepod in the house, even if you have an AppleTV or iPad that could already act as a homekit hub is silly (I *do* have homepods, but that’s not the point).

They also don’t have a cheap homekit hub if you don’t want an appletv, homepod, or iPad.

Siri itself lags pretty bad behind competitors too, and while you can argue that the NLP and data requests are always going to lag behind a company like google, that’s still at its core a data processing engine for ads and search, the fact that you can’t even use operators like “and” in a request seems insane to me. I can’t tell siri to do 2 actions, even related actions, in one “hey siri” command :/

also WTF can’t I prioritize what devices respond to hey siri and why can’t I adjust sensitivity to it on homepods? It’s a mess if you have multiple devices set to respond in the same room right now, or if a homepod in the next room over hears you, or etc

It seems disingenuous to describe the “advancements” in the home category over the past two years without at least some lip service to the state of HomeKit.
