Out of curiosity, why is everyone excited about iRadio? I guess it better be vastly improved being that it's years behind other HQ music streaming options.

iTunes Match? I was glad to cancel it. Luckily, the Apple rep said there wasn't a good reception and offered a refund.

why do people keep saying it is years behind other options, or that it will be competing with pandora and spotify. for the majority of the worlds population, it will not be competing with pandora or spotify, and provided they get wide geographic coverage, it will be first to market in many countries.

iAds was always like that. But iAds was pretty much a complete failure. This is very symbiotic though. A way to revive iAds and generate potentially serious income AND provide a new service.

But again - see my thoughts above...

The really great thing about iAds, though, is that you can just go into your settings and turn all that off. Sure, you'll still be ads, but they won't be tracking you. Good luck getting Google to stop tracking you on anything, let alone a device they actually control!

Actually - you can turn off google tracking. And Android (the os) doesn't have any ads. And just like iOS - you can turn off gps/reporting/etc.

That seems to be only for a computer browser. Not for any tablet of phone.

Again - with Android - you have the same track or no track as you do in iOS

And all of google apps you can disable GPS tracking.

So I'm not sure what you or the other OP is trying to intimate.

We have no clue what it is yet. We are hoping that it is better than existing solutions. If it is, I'll use iRadio, if not, I'll continue to use pandora, spotify, etc.

I have an open mind, do you?

We have no clue? It says what it is in this article. It's Pandora with Apple integration. You'll probably be able to use it right in the music app or iTunes on the Mac, which will be cool.

----------

It doesn't get rid of the stupid redirect links Google puts on their site. I don't care about being tracked as long as it doesn't do annoying things like spamming my history with a bunch of these redirect URLs that I can't send to my friends to use. Luckily, there's a Safari plugin and a Greasemonkey script that bypasses them.

----------

Let's hope that they do NOT do it simoilar to when it launched iAd in 2010.

That was a disaster.

What's so bad about iAd? Does it not work well?

----------

There should be no ads.

I agree. Instead, they should put a "buy" option when listening to generate revenue from people liking a song and buying it.

You're right. Google is evil and wants all of your information and you have no choice even if you just say Google 3 times they put all kinds of tracking subliminal messages in your thoughts.

The secret is out and you discovered it.

Never say biggie smalls or Google 3 times in a row.

You will get capped and be tracked while it's happening.

It's true. I read it on the Internet thingy.

And this is a rumor site so, No. You don't know what iRadio or whatever name they choose will be until it's announced and even then don't believe it because FaceTime was going to be cross platform if you believed Steve Jobs.

Why is Apple throwing money away on something that has been done to death already? What do they hope to accomplish that hasn't been done?

They failed miserably with Maps.

And negotiating a music contract isn't cheap...

It is if they followed their iBook strategy...

Last time I reply to you ever because I feel like I'm getting troll baited... I don't care if Google tracks me as long as they don't shove this junk in my history. Their redirect links do just that and also make it take longer to load because Verizon's DNS sucks. Oh, I also just remembered that my YouTube channel is about to be forced to the new layout. Again, more tracking that I don't care about as long as it's not in my face and annoying, which it is. You're desperately trying to defend Google and call me a dumb conspiracy theorist, and it's obvious. You're forced to use their annoying search tracking system unless you go around them.

The rumors are usually true, in fact, more accurate than what Steve Jobs used to announce.

Google... Google... Google! They know your history now & you don't have a choice.

They'll make it first-party and integrated. Also, if they do it right, it'll know the user's preferences from his iTunes play history.

To be fair even MacRumors uses a click-through scheme.

Which service?

So; I was looking forward to this but not if it's going to be full of ads :(

Will/do any of the current crop of services do what I want? (in order of preference):
  1. Serves up songs based on my iTunes collection / rating / a playlist / a genre / or a song;
  2. Doesn's have any ads; I am willing to pay a fee;
  3. Gives me the option to buy a song easily which then gets added to iTunes without any fuss;
  4. Throws a song I already own into the mix every now and then; and
  5. Allows me to share with other people on Facebook which songs I'm enjoying at the moment.
Is this really too much to ask?

I was relying on Apple to just provide the solution I want, so, yes, I know I'm lazy by not doing my own research, so thanks for your guidance!

For you. For me, and hundreds of millions of other people in many countries across the globe, it would be the only option. Thus, ahead of other options.

Yeah, and it's also really annoying because I can't get to any pages in my history. But I feel like this is not for tracking purposes but because of the way the forum has to handle reply/edit requests.

Judging by all the "Session To Be Announced" and Lab slots, most being in the "services" area I'd venture to guess Apple will be announcing iRadio at WWDC.

You know what'd be awesome? iRadio with ads for free. iRadio without ads bundled with iTunes Match (at the same $25/year price).

Yes, as a Match subscriber I'll be quite disappointed if Apple don't offer exactly that. Or something. My subscription renewed recently, and if Match is exactly the same as it is today in 11 months' time, I doubt I'll be renewing.

Hmm no thanks, had enough with iTunes Match experience. There are very good companies whose job is to only focus on it and doing it very well.

What happened with iTunes Match? Not trying to stupid or anything, but mine works just fine (except the playlists, they were a bit dodgy in the beginning).

Presumably Apple must be losing a lot of iTunes music sales as people switch to streaming services. I guess iRadio is their way of trying to claw back some of that lost revenue through ads and encourage people back into buying iTunes music again.

They will probably gain some ad revenues but I don't think it will encourage many people to switch back to buying iTunes music. The streaming services are so much better value for money than iTunes music downloads.
