I really can’t see how people could do away with a Mac or PC for just an iPad. My Mac I can’t live without. Being a bit dramatic, but you understand.
It’s the ultraportability and ultra-convenience. It’s easy to pick up and go. I take mine all through the house. I also have an iPhone (15PM) and a MacBook Pro, but the phone has too tiny a screen to be useful for anything and the MacBook Pro is just too bulky to conveniently carry. My iPad is the item I use for at least 90% of my computing needs. The screen on the iPad is better than any other Apple device on top of everything else. Within two feet of this iPad, I have an iMac, a MBP, and an iPhone. I’m using the iPad.

I still cannot understand why anyone uses an iPhone for anything but making and receiving calls and the occasional photo. Web surfing is cramped, text is too tiny, and typing on such a small device is torture, and that’s with a Pro Max. The Macs are good, but too rigid and inflexible. There’s very little I can do on a Mac that I cannot do on an iPad. Some web pages seem incompatible with WebKit, and that’s about it.

Because the iPad is the best tablet on the market. Many artists and creators use the iPad Pro with Apple Pencil. Battery life could be improved tho, we've had the same battery for a long time, especially in the Pros.
Android tablets just haven't been as good.

You can set yours up as a wall clock/calendar using one of the many clock apps that might suit you (that's my main use for an old iPad Air 3rd gen)
I have an old iPad Pro 12.9” first generation on my wall as a HomeKit home monitor that shows all of my cameras and other devices I want to keep an eye on. The older ones with LCD screens work so much better because you can set the screen to never turn off without risking burn-in.

I had a 2nd Gen 11 inch Ipad Pro that I loved, I used it every single day for hours. But then I got stupid and bought the M1 12.9. The first 2-3 months I loved it. I was switching between it and my MBA M1 like crazy.... but it got old. Started using just my MBA. Sold both and got my MBP M4Pro. I LOVE my MBP but I am getting the itch for a Ipad again. Just something small to bring on day trips, read on at night, take to dr appts.... I will likely have only 2-3 apps. on it. The Mini is so temping but then again so is the 10th gen. AAARRRGGG.

I got a 14” M3 Max MacBook Pro last year, but it sits on a stand on my desk all the time. I got it as I was fed up of waiting for the Studio to be updated… anyway so I do use my MacBook, I also use my iPad Pro, even have it on the desk and use it instead of my Mac. I just find the smaller touchscreen an easier to use device for browsing etc. I find my iPhone a bit cramped at times, so for the iOS touch screen experience I always reach for my iPad first.

What a ridiculous statement. The non-iPad tablets sold in 2024 had a 61.4% market share, while iPad had a lowly 38.6% share. I hope you are not a math teacher.

That’s 61.4% shared amongst dozens of different manufacturers and 38.6% shared by ONE manufacturer. I know which one I’d rather have. And why the iPad is considered as THE tablet market.

I have trouble seeing the iPad as a laptop replacement for most people. If a iPad works great as a replacement for some people, that’s wonderful. For many of us, that’s not the case.
We collaborate with various professionals, including real estate agents, medical offices, and corporate event production companies. In these industries, iPads and iPad Pros are not merely basic computing devices; they are regarded as significantly more powerful and convenient than laptops for tasks such as marking up documents, creating AR designs, and reviewing and editing media.

The Mac rumor forum often lacks professional perspectives on iPad use, leading to discussions primarily between non-users. critics. and casual home consumers.

I tried for a long time but eventually gave up. Now I have a Surface Pro and despite the clunkier UI, I actually get things done. Just having a real file system with full access made a world of difference. And I don’t have to pay a dozen subscription services because apps usually have perpetual licenses on the desktop.

I love my iPad Pro. Way more powerful than I need it to be, but it's great to watch movies/TV shows, read Apple Books, and using the bigger screen is better for navigating and typing in other apps

Makes no difference which you prefer. iPad has a minority share of the "tablet market".

I'm curious. The first few posts include stories of how y'all don't use or need the iPad. So what are the conclusions here? Yet "Apple shipped an estimated 16.9 million iPads during the quarter, up from 14.8 million in Q4 2023." What's it all about?

And BTW, I use my iPad Mini for a number of tasks, including reading in bed at night. The iPhone is just too small for that. And I regularly use my 13" M4 iPad Pro. Both are an integral part of my daily living. So, what's it all about? Why do so many people here have a dislike for the iPad and so many more millions appreciate and use it? Something unique is going on here.

The takeaway is that Macrumours has always been a very poor representation of Apple’s user base overall, which is why I have never really paid any attention to the doomsaying here.

If anything, continue to bet on the opposite of whatever Macrumours says that Apple “has” to do or risk being doomed.

From another happy owner of a 11” M4 iPad Pro.

My M1 Air is a wonderful travel companion, especially with the Logitech Folio it is a Laptop light that let's me do some easy researches for traveling, answering quick eMails, oder just have some downtime after a busy day.

Could it be done on my Phone? Sure enough, but I do enjoy the bigger screen, especially when watching movies.

Would a laptop be not better? Sure, but for my use case I only do light stuff on my iPad is sufficient enough and I don't see a use case.

You can compare one brand vs. all the other brands combined which is a misleading representation. You would need to compare Apple vs. every other brand.

That’s interesting! I can’t find a reason to grab it. It has the same apps as my 16PM. My phone is always on me, so I use it for stuff. Then I use my Mac for things the phone can’t do. The iPad just doesn’t fit into my day at all.
I think a lot of it is just finding the right tool for whatever task you want to do. My MacBook ic collecting dust on my desk. My iPad has been my go-to device for any personal and professional work and leisure activities. I deleted most apps off of my iPhone and it usually goes straight to the charger when I get home.

I used to think the iPad was the redundant device. But, if I can get away with selling my iPhone and MacBook, I think the iPad and my cellular Apple Watch are all I need.

Good way to twist it to Android vs iOS instead of Apple vs Samsung, Apple vs Lenovo etc, so you can manipulate facts to present a false narrative to suite an agenda.

The iOS share is 52% and the Android share is 47% so iPad is certainly not “the market”.

I use my iPad a lot — it is hands down my most used device, looking at screen time — but I don’t really need the high end features of M4, OLED screens, a physical keyboard, a pencil and so on. I just use it to browse the web, write to forums and emails, write blog posts and short articles, and so on. I tried the iPad Pro, I tried the pencil, I found very little value added for my use cases. So a base iPad is fine for me.

Now you are comparing operating systems, which while it is a valid comparison is not the comparison this article draws. The article shows about market share per company, which is on Apple's side.

Different metrics. That is all I am taking offense on, nothing more, nothing less.

I think that’s why mine gets no use. There’s nothing different about it from my phone but a bigger screen and my 16PM screen size is big enough to do what I’d do on the iPad.

Yes absolutely. Nothing different apart form a bigger screen.
Oh, and specially designed apps to take advantage of the bigger screen,
…and multitasking, …and a case with a real keyboard with a trackpad, …and stereo quad speakers, …and a considerably larger battery, …and a desktop class processor, …and the ability to have 16GB of memory on some models, …and the ability to use a pencil for note taking and drawing (or whatever else you might want to do with it).

Yes, apart from that, nothing different at all.
