The Truth is Out There

Sorry, I have a real problem with that survey. It does not include the entire United States, left out were the territories. Those people are US citizens and deserve to be counted. Over the years we stole, finagled, expropriated or conquered those fine, but poorly understood lands. there 15 territories, five of which are inhabited: Puerto Rico, Guam, Northern Marianas, U. S. Virgin Islands and American Samoa. There are 10 largely uninhabited Territories; Palmyra Atoll, Baker Island, Howland Island, Jarvis Island, Johnston Atoll, Kingman Reef, Wake Island, Midway Islands, Navassa Island and Serranilla Bank. However, on the uninhabited islands the population fluctuates, depending on our guano mining activities, nuke testing and super secret US bases where we hide the Aliens, Elvis and the head of Walt Disney. I'm willing to bet u my cat squeak that aliens and Elvis prefer the iPhone. Just wanted to set the record straight:eek:

Amazing to see Texas' allegiance to "other" brands. I guess they don't like products that are designed in California. Or maybe iPhone 6Plus is not "bigger" enough?

I visited several places in Alaska this summer with my family. My wife and brother-in-law had Verizon, my mom had Sprint, and my sister and I had AT&T. My sister and I were the only ones that had good service. Sprint and Verizon had really bad service to no service. I wonder if the large iPhone populations stems back to when AT&T had the exclusive agreement with Apple and the users in Alaska never switched off the iPhone.

Higher education does not equal smart. Owning an iPhone does not mean one is smart.

Most of the people I've met with phd's were the biggest idiots I've ever met in my life.

I wouldn't be so sure of that. They were 1. able to get into a phd program to begin with and 2. finish it. You may want to rethink your statement. Maybe your statement says more about your intelligence level than theirs.

They would probably need to break down the usage to the county level in order to draw some type of conclusion. You have both poor and wealthy states with high usage as well as education levels.

Every kid in school up here in Vermont seems to have one. Plus all my children, grandchildren, their BFs and GFs. It's kind of amazing. Whether it makes any difference or not, the Green Mountain State almost always ranks in the top 5 for educational attainment.

I buy them because they are great phones! Nothing more nothing less.

Maybe you should meet more people with phd's? People with phd's might be BOOK smart, but they're not street smart or any other kind of smart. The phd's I've met were not very bright people. Getting a phd isn't THAT hard, I mean, lots of people get phd's. The only requirement to get into a phd program is getting straight A's in honor's classes. I got straight A's in college, it's really not that hard.

This data was collected over the Christmas holiday.

So, what does it tell us?

Mainly, that people in some states were more likely to spend time that week playing games or surfing websites ... which show ads from Chitika's network.

Hmm.

Perhaps they were unemployed. Or alone. Or just unwilling to go outside and play, because it's too cold. :)

Or teens, fiddling with their phone instead of interacting over the holidays.

LOL, kinda embarassing that it is most popular in the most backwards rural states.

New York is a rural backward state? Connecticut? Massachusetts?

You don't know much about the USA!

And Vermont IS statistically the most rural state, we are HARDLY backward, having one of the nation's highest educational attainments. Check your Wikipedia for the stats!;)

Perhaps it depends on the university and/or program as fast as it being easy to get all A's. And intelligence isn't necessatily related to being street smart--there's intellectual intelligence and there is emotional/social intelligence, for example, and they are both different and not necessarily related. In the classical/colloquial sense, when intelligence is being referenced it's generally related to intellect.

Apparently there is a good amount of smart, rich people in Alaska.

Just because someone has an iPhone does not make them smart or rich. I see students of all walks of life with different iPhone models. I've seen the most educated looking as well as the least educated acting using an iphone. Its silly using a phone as a way to judge people's status. Android users are more tech savvy but not all of them are tech savvy, some of them get androids because of their better prices.

Montana Usage

Well, with a population of 2 and one of them has an iPhone, it isn't a surprise that the percentage in Montana is higher. :)

What actually is surprising is that the iPhone usage was supposedly higher than Android in 2011, since Montana did not get official carrier support for the iPhone until 2011. In the summer of 2010, AT&T said that the iPhone was finally coming to Montana (once AT&T acquired the AllTel properties in Montana and similar rural states). Ironically, Verizon got there first by about a month when the first non-AT&T iPhone was made available that year.

No mention of Tupac because he's black? Racist.

Maybe? Maybe not? Don't assume. Getting straight A's in college is one thing and it depends on area of study and the curriculum and how much you are working on the side while in school. Getting a phd is another. Don't assume that someone with a phd isn't bright or doesn't have street smarts. You can learn something from the phd folks. In many cases they've expanded a whole area of study in a significant way, written books, and done various other things that show they are in fact bright. Colleges you've been getting straight A's at may be handing out bachelor's degrees like water but getting through a master's program and a phd program is a whole other ball game. What is it about you that attracts not so bright phd holders?

NM doesn't surprise me that it's the lowest. I used to live there, and people just shop for everything based PURELY on lowest price. Quality, longevity, durability, experience is all trumped on the price tag.

Used to work retail, and it was always "I love this, it's exactly what I was looking for and have the money for it, but I'm going to go with this one because it's cheaper".

Where is my tongue, oh yea, in my cheek

There are an infinite number of issues. But, when U are poking fun at something, u gotta narrow it down.

I have a phd. My dissertation was on idiots. My Conclusion: don't be 1.;)

LOL - true. Must be a mistake. Mississippi is one of the worst states in the US, seriously.

And Mass is the rudest state in the nation. Mississippi has the largest regional carrier in the Southeast based in Ridgeland, MS (C-Spire). They push iPhones heavily. To use C-Spire, 80% of your phone usage has to be within Mississippi. You cannot go into a C-Spire store without waiting a long time to see a rep because of the long lines and most of the customers are getting iPhones. I have 3 lines all iPhone 5's with them.

But if you're trying to avoid places where all of the above are (well) below average, you'll want to stay clear of the South.

That's what data from a new report by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) appears to suggest.

The report ranked all 50 states (plus the District) according to nine different measures of well-being: health, safety, housing, access to broadband, civic engagement, education, jobs, environment, and income.

The study assigned a value from zero to ten (ten being a perfect score, zero being an embarrassment) for each of the nine measures. While no state was perfect, New Hampshire, which scored 77.6, is easily the best anyone can do in the United States, followed by Minnesota (76.2), Vermont (74.8), Iowa (72.9); and North Dakota (72.4).

Meanwhile, there are a number of states — all of them in the South — you might want to avoid. Mississippi, which scored lower than any other state, barely broke 50. Arkansas and Alabama, which tied for second to last, each scored 51.3. West Virginia, which was fourth to last, scored 52.2. And Tennessee, which was fifth to last, scored 52.9.
