So, I already have a 16G iPhone 4. I think I might get me a new iPod touch 64 G and use that for pics/vids/and music. that way I can keep the smartphone smart!

I have a 80 gig Classic. I won't upgrade to a Touch until they offer something with 100+ gigs. Hopefully this year is the 128 gig update.

What is that, like 2 TB of music?

I have 4 TB's of Music and videos. I can go several years playing 24/7 and not repeat myself. This is a result of 40 plus years of music collecting. What is it like to have this much music? The reality is I don't really remember what I have. To find something I use Google desktop search so when I am looking for song I don't regularly play I have to see if I have it, 99 times out a hundred I do. Being a musician for nearly 50 years, I have very, very......very eclectic tastes in music. When I am listening to my Touch I might have loaded the Band Dune, maybe Nightwish, perhaps Palestrina, then Phillip Glass, or an Hour of Slack podcast from Church of the Subgenius, Music from the Hearts of Space, Kay Kyser, Richard Rogers, Gwar, Devo, Prince or whatever he is not calling himself might be there. I could go on for ages with this. I even think Lady Gaga is at least "entertaining". She understands how fleeting the ability is to cash in so she is milking things for every dime she can get out of it knowing, I am sure, that in 3 years or less nobody will even remember who she is. :)

All I can say is thank you Saint Vidicon of Cathode for the humongous and cheap HD's we have these days. :D

For St Vidicon See The Warlock Series of Cristopher Stasheff, charming and entertaining books they are.

Mid September????

Try next week. According to Mac Break Weekly over at TWiT
( http://twit.tv/mbw207 ) the new iPod Touch will be announced next week perhaps on Tuesday the 17th. Go to the above link and listen to the discussion, if you are a so called Fanboy be careful what you drool on.;) The iPod Touch 4G sounds sweet!!!! :D

A 360GB iPod Classic. One last HD version for us lossless music freaks. And shut up just because you ask "who has or listens to that much music?":eek::cool::D:p

The Hitachi 1.8 in Hard Drive that is in the Ipod Classic can be had in a 250 gig version. There are several outfits online that will install this HD in you iPod Classic so you don't have to wait. :D

What ever happened to the iPhone nano rumor.

If Apple is still making their products smaller with each release, I expect the nano and shuffle to be half the size and double the memory and battery capacity. That would be "magical".
They don't always make the products smaller.

The current iPod nano is bigger than the "fat boy" nano.

I swear for half the bands you listed you went onto iTunes clicked on sort by date added and just mentioned artists all with a play count of zero to show how "eclectic" and diverse your 4TB is.

With regards to this news. Its only because the mid august event never transpired. I wonder if nothing happens by September there will be news of a mod Oct event.

Wow, everybody acts surprised. Really, sometimes I want to be paid to be an analyst and say all these obvious stuff. "New iPhone model next year!"

Why are these Apple Forums so hateful. Danno you are totally clueless. I have Music from the 12th Century to the present day, all musical styles from many different cultures. iTunes has very little of what I have. Sometimes iTunes surprises me but not very often. As I mentioned I am a musician so my collection is my "fake book" I happen to enjoy playing in consort instruments from Henry VIII's time, Recorders, Sackbutts, crumhorns, natural flutes, etc. In the interests of improving your education I will help you start to diversify your musical horizons, iTunes has the catalog of Peter Phillips and the The Tallis Scholars They perform the church music of Thomas Tallis (c. 1505 – 23 November 1585) his masses are sublimely ethereal. The really cool thing about the Tallis Scholars is they record in the cathedrals where Thomas Tallis originally preformed. Sonically these beautiful coral works are preformed in context. Enjoy:)

Apple generally sends out invitations a week in advance for a media event. And the iPod updates have traditionally been announced at a media event instead of via press release. Thus far, no invitation has surfaced. Chances are the rumor about an announcement next week is bogus.

Labor day, the American holiday, is later this year. Maybe that's why an even this September would be later.

Labor day is not later, it's on the first Monday of September, like every year. This can be the 1st all the way through the 7th. This year its on the 6th. Technically, it could be a day later. And you know when was the last time it was a day later ?

2009. So technically, this year, Labor day is earlier than last year, not later.

iPod touch with retina display and HD video recording is inevitably coming for this holiday season. This is an 'obvious' item, not a 'news' item, as long as one is just guessing based on past history :)

Apple is not going to rush into the cloud streaming yet, me thinks.

I want three things from this event:

(1) iTunes X, which is finally 64-bit and leverages all the technologies of Snow Leopard. Focus on speed, performance, and stability.

(2) iTV - although this likely won't be coming until next year it seems.

(3) iOS 4 for iPad preview/release date.

Well I'm one minority who would buy a 360 classic tomorrow and i know six others who would too.

I have two Classics (160GB and 120GB) and both are filled with music.

Not sure if I would buy another iPod this year. The excitement of the iPod wore off about two years ago for me when I bought my last iPod.

You are correct, as usual when this idea has been pushed forward by anyone no matter what it is called for video's or music the lamentations and breast beating from the RIAA and the MPAA can be heard all of the way to Washington DC. I don't think Apple wants the hassel at this time.

I have a 120GB classic, and it's like 80% full. But guess what naysayers -- you don't JUST put music on them! Durrrrr!!! :p

I've got a lot of videos on it, as well as pictures. It isn't all about music -- not like it is an iPod 1G... :D

I'm going to go ahead and stick with my September 9th launch date of the iPod Touch. I have a very smart birdy.

I'm hoping they kill the shuffle, and replace it with a $99 iPod nano.

And kill the classic, and replace it with a $299 128GB touch.

First sign that new iPods are coming soon: shortages of the current-generation iPod classic, nano and touch models. So far, no retailer has reported such shortages, so don't expect any announcements on new models until mid September 2010.
