Yeah, let go of an ultimate PR opportunity in a growing country, (when the leader of that country decides to attend the store opening, the company CEO should be present: As a sign of respect. This is true for most nations) in addition to the deal with the department of education in the country that could be responsible for upto 4.5 billion dollars!

TC is no longer the day-day manager of apple, he is the CEO..CEO's LEAD the company and its workers..technical issues needn't be micromanaged by the company CEO.

Yeah....’fanbois’ you guys may be but Tim is no ‘diplomat’. He should stick to the home fires. As the Marmalade sang in my era....’the world is a terrible place..a terrible place...). Oh, BTW Today’s headline in the NYT on Turkey:

‘...Turkey's prime minister has threatened drastic steps to censor the Internet, including shutting down Facebook and YouTube, ...'

Most company heads meet political leaders in countries where they do business in and apple is no different. You may refer to this as "diplomacy" but its a part and parcel of most CEO's of big corporations. Do industry heads not travel with the president on state visits to developing countries? They do so because this can potentially open up markets for their products..Russia has a track record of censorship particularly of voices that seek to speak out against the government (putin and co) yet steve jobs had no issues meeting russia's prime minister. China is also big on censoring the internet, yet facebook's COO and google have no issues meeting the chinese government from time to time.

If turkey's leadership wants to discuss prospects of a 4.5 billion ipad investment for their educational/school system, what should Tim Cook and Apple do? Refuse to meet them? Its just not apple and its CEO, but political leaders also want to be seen associating with tech companies and their leadership as this gives them a PR opportunity to look "pro-business". Why do you think Netanyahu did a tour of Silicon valley?

Yeah, yeah...I know. As a lot of people said back when I was young, “Better Red than Dead!” I never bought into that myself...but that’s just me.
