Agree, south American needs jobs, clearly. Do not understand why apple chooses Asia and not South America, they are our southern brothers.
fender guitar company does well in South America, I am sure phone assembly would be no different. It’s a blue collar job, it’s not a 3nm fab house…..its Just assembly.

Apple is not moving out of china, the news cycle makes one think otherwise, Apple and china are tied to the hip.
Apple sells a lot of products in China. Apple must not upset the Apple cart. just follow the money , it’s simple to understand.

investment elsewhere amounts to fractional changes, make good newsprint, and make people feel better about exploiting cheep labor, for personal gain.

I myself am guilty of this, yet I can admit such.

I would like to see Apple put more into Mexico than communist china, myself. But that’s just me. And will gladly pay more for it.

Diversification is great. It would be even better if Apple worked with another manufacturer other than Foxconn, which could become property of the CCP should China decide to annex Taiwan.
I think first they are getting the manufacturing hubs up and running; then, once they physically exist, persuading Foxconn to sell would be easier (in case of Taiwan getting invaded the local government could also confiscate them).
