I read the headline...

and then checked the date. No, it wasn't April 1st, and so I read on.

Buying out an eight year lease is a rather substantial commitment, but then again there are a lot of people going through there every day who have the means to buy Apple products which can meet their needs. I guess Steve had visions of dollar signs passing through there every day and he was not in a position to snag some of them. Well, that itch has been scratched.

More like a touch of class. It's the difference between using white copier paper to print your resume on and using a tinted and watermarked linen textured stock.

Nah, more like the typical Apple/Steve Jobs holier than though attitude. They think their you know what doesn't stink. I find it a bit pathetic.

Linen lined. Talk about arrogance.

We used to do this all the time when developing prototypes for our marketing department. When we started sending them in linen or silk lined boxes these products started getting more attention than others. It works. And these were boring bathroom products....

Appeal to someone's ego, and they will follow you.

If it's New York or New Jersey, the "linen" that it's lined with has pictures of Benjamin Franklin on it.

NYC is especially famous for taking bribes of all sorts for living or shopping room.

Up here, it's common to ask for "key money", where you exchange a cash bribe under the table with an property manager in order to get the first chance to rent or lease in his building. People pay anywhere from $1500 to $5000 or more to get into a desirable location. It's illegal, but widely done anyway.

I can only imagine how much the key money for Grand Central is.

So in this case it is ego vs ego.

While yours exudes a horrific stench.

No need to get personal. I call it like I see it.

Aww, I read the headline and thought it meant the shop would be linen lined! I'll be honest with you, I think the standard Apple shop interior is actually a bit bland and old fashioned (don't shoot me!).

Less chain stores in the Grand Central station, even Apple (I'm, a big fan).

NY need the small mom & pop shop from NY to keep the place special.

*Fewer chain stores

Grand Central is often used humorously in a sentence to denote hectic busy-ness. Apple's going to make it that much busier.

I pity all you NYC commuters who have to go through GC on a daily basis anyway, but adding an Apple Store to attract even more masses....good luck to you. :)

Really? It's one of the most spectacular rail stations in the world, what is there to pity? I always thought of it as extension of my apartment.

Aside from that, I really hope Apple's store doesn't muck up Grand Central Terminal's concourse with glaring glass, light and stainless steel. I still remember when illuminated billboards overshadowed the beauty of the station in its pre-renovation days. Apple should make the store mesh with the Terminal, not stick out like vinyl siding on an old colonial house.

Makes me sad I moved to California. I used to work on 42nd and 3rd and I went to grand central nearly every day (either for lunch or, in bad weather, because I took the 7 or shuttle cross town from port authority). I am betting this store is going to be something to see.
