Makes sense. Surely the M4 iPad Pro release has hurt M3 MacBook sales.

I have an M3 MBA... I'm happy with it, but probably would have waited if I had known it would be such a short cycle.
But waited until next spring? It's unlikely they'll update the Air before that...

M3 15" Air 16G/512G is $1599 at Best Buy. I wish they had the Amazon price 🙁

I'm not sure that it will be a short cycle. I'm thinking it will be the last to adopt M4, after MBP's, iMac, and mini

they better get M4 macs out asap. No one wants their tired ass m2 and m3 product lines anymore
Yeah, if I was Apple, I would move all macs to M4 ASAP. It seems such a superior SoC in every way… a big leap in CPU performance, fast efficiency because the M4 iPad Pro barely gets hot, way better at Machine Learning (AI) with the biggest jump in TOPS ever (more than double)…

The M4 truly feels like a whole new cycle in Apple Silicon.

Wow, you're way more optimistic than I am. Seems like the M4 was another iterative update in the chain of basic updates since the M1 came out.

Little too much confidence about machine learning when Apple appears to be markedly behind in that area, and the TOPS is a number that has only started being advertised recently (and the TOPS performance is already lagging behind the new ARM Qualcomm processors).

I guess we have reached peak Apple. Now we just wait for the deep discounts before even considering buying new hardware.

Now that IS innovation (oh wait, Walmart and others have been doing this for years.) Good thing we have Ivy League MBAs and supply chain gurus running Apple now, as they have managed to make it exactly like the other bog standard companies.

They don’t price match? Why not just buy on amazon? Thats always the best deal next to B&H
+5% cash back on Amazon purchases with Chase Freedom credit card (and an extra year of warranty and 120 days theft protection)

Apple has let us know how many operations all of their neural engines can do since the beginning. TOPS isn't some mystery figure, it's Trillions of Operations Per Second.

Different companies also measure them at different levels of precision, which is why comparisons are often useless. It's the same problem with GPU output - one will measure on FP32, another at 'half-precision' FP16, etc.

I just got a Starlight MBA 13" M3. The $1394 price is only for midnight and space gray. So no discount for me. 🤣

Kinda my point. We have no idea how strong they actually are in machine learning, and the number of TOPS is useless marketing jargon from Apple. Apple just said that the neural engines are faster and "more than double the FLOPs" and the person I was quoting was taking as gospel that the improvements were meaningful, when we have no reason to believe they actually are.

This is the most ridiculous and entitled comment I've ever read on here.

"tired ass m2 and m3 product lines"...

Are you aware that the M3 MBA was only released 3 months ago?
What exactly are your daily tasks so that M2 or M3 chips are not good enough for you?
I sincerely hope you were not serious and this was a sarcastic comment.

It was definitely a sarcastic comment…but at the same time I’ve put off all plans to buy a Mac Studio until they get an m4 in it. I mean why pay full price for old chips when iPads now have the latest and greatest Unless ya really really need pro level power right away.

OK, I'm relieved! Yes, of course, the M4 Mac Studio makes sense. You'll have to wait for AT LEAST 6 more months I think. They normally release the Max and the Ultra versions of the Mac Studio together.

Best Buy still selling the M2 15" MBA with 16GB RAM, 1TB ROM for $1499. Seems a better deal to me to get double the storage of the M3 version for the same price, then resell when the M4s come out.

Still, eh?

They must be having trouble moving them -- been going at that price for quite a while
