Better consumer value and I'm interested too. Else I too await it while my aging Intel MB keeps somewhat chugging along... while also shopping PC laptops as a possible fork from Apple over this value issue (after 20+ years with Apple and only Apple).

I have a Mac (AND recently added a PC) desktop, so I could easily roll with a PC laptop for those times I'm on the road... as the same money Apple demands for desirable upgrades will easily buy a LOT of PC guts with flexibility to evolve that PC should needs change. Yes, it would not be macOS but it would also not be "too expensive" for a work tool. When I need some Mac apps or similar, I can simply wait until I get back to the desktop. I don't want to do it... but also refuse to farrrrrrrr overpay for commodities like RAM & SSD.

Apple used to be against giving discounts. Supposedly Steve thought it’d cheapen the brand.

And also not doing much advertisements. Now their ads are commonplace. Their ads are also very meh.

It feels like Apple might not support the M3 for as long as other products given their desire to move to the M4 so quickly and stop production at TSMC. They might just drop. M1-M3 support in one go in 4 years.
