A Pro machine with 8GB of RAM. 😂
In 2024. 😂😂
I’m an investor in Apple and we have a discord channel for other investors where we get together and talk about everything Apple.

It’s a meme within our community.

Under Jobs there would rarely be sales like these constantly on machines.

It kinda helps of peal back the veil and see what Apple SHOULD be charging for these devices.
Apples loosing market share in the PC market, month after month they loose market share.
And many of the other investors I speak with daily are only around because of the phone and tablet market. We already have internal bets on release timeframes of products and the hottest bet right now is whether or not the iPhone 16 will look just like the 12,13,14,15.

While I understand your frustration, Apple has been very consistent.

Base RAM for M-series Macs:
  • Standard processor = 8GB
  • Pro processor = 16/18GB
  • Max processor = 32/36GB
  • Ultra processor = 64GB (presumably 72GB with M3 Ultra)
Apple deserves ridicule for shipping 8GB of RAM in any computer with a "Pro" label, regardless of whether the processor is a "Pro" version or not.

I don’t completely hate the lower tier MBP. A lot of folks like me can get away with a MBA but I really wanted the better screen and ProMotion so I had to pay extra for ram and hard drive space I simply don’t use. If this was an option when I bought my M1 I would have gone for this tier albeit waited for a sale.
That's a valid point, I forgot about that new MBP entry tier. Most of the time retailers put big discounts on base models, and people think they're getting something good are very disappointed. That entry MBP is basically what you said, more of a MBA with a better screen.

Dear Macrumors denizen.

I believe there is some confusion over the naming of the MacBook Pro with the beggarly 8GB of ram. I believe the source of the confusion and angst is the belief that pro stands for professional. Well let me clear that up for you cry babies. Pro actually stands for Profound not Professional. Apple is profound, I am profound, you are profound for endlessly buying our stuff.
Enjoy your frugal MacBook Profound.

I hope this helps,

Tim Apple

And I just noticed that it actually starts with 512 GB storage, as opposed to 256, which is an improvement that helps to justify the price increase from the M2 MacBook Pro.
The 14" model actually has never been available with less than 500GB to begin with. The 13" model you are comparing to was just a worse overpriced Macbook Air with a base M2 chip only. It didn't even support the maximum memory and storage options that the 2020 Intel version had. Being less Pro than the old Intel version it replaced it was just a horrible Macbook series and it's good Apple finally discontinued it. So yes compared to a 3 year old model with an even older design the M3 14" should be better but that doesn't warrant a price increase.

I have noticed similar sale prices in my country as well and they might be enough to make me finally buy some 16 MBP. M3s were just priced beyond acceptable for too many people from the beginning. Getting the RAM and storage right on top was too expensive. Nobody wanted to buy a crippled M3.

While I personally agree, all computer makers are guilty of the same crime.

I am frankly more upset that the cost to upgrade RAM and storage beyond their paltry amount is so high.

Enterprise customers in the UK are already being offered free upgrades to 16GB of RAM on the base MacBook Pros:

Good price for the entry level 14" MacBook Pro. Good for those who want a ProMotion display. Can be a good alternate to 15" Air

They are yes but PC manufactures give you at least 16GB one every single device priced over $499.
Literally EVERY laptop priced over $499 has 16GB of ram.
What’s apples excuse for saddening a $1600 laptop with 8GB of ram?

Both Dell's XPS and Latitude line have numerous laptops with 8GB of RAM, all well over $499. A couple of versions are over $1000.

Not that I'd buy one of those either.

Just looked at those $899 dells with 8GB of ram.
They have 8GB on board with an empty ram slot.

So you can upgrade ram…..

I have been meaning to get a new laptop from Amazon since my 2014 MacBook Pro isn't getting OS updates anymore.

For $1399, should I get this 512 GB storage / 8 GB of RAM MacBook Pro in the article, or should I spring for this laptop with 2TB of storage and 32 GB of RAM? 🤔

2160x1350 🤮

I was looking at getting a Framework 16 but the resolution is equal to a 13" MacBook Pro from 2013. It's a 16" display but they're giving me the resolution of a 13"...hard pass.

I miss when Apple wasn't the only company that cared about putting quality displays in laptops (at least in the Pro laptops, the current Airs are pretty meh but still better than this).
