M4?

Its laggy, has jelly scroll and underpowered AI.

M5 is better, M6 is even better but M7 is great. M8 is perfect and M9 is fantastic.

But M10 is what we need!
Jelly scroll would have nothing to do with the SoC, that’s a display issue…

The only problem with that is the Raytracing missing in M2 Studio.

I'm in similar boat as I have 2017 MBP which is in need of update but I need RT so can't just buy M2. (for now I use work machine for my needs but its not ideal)

So I will have to wait either till M4 Pro Mac Mini or Studio (ideal situation).

I really hope studio is out in Oct/Nov event too so I can get my dream machine and never look back for a while. If not then I'll get the M4 Pro Mac Mini and evaluate later once M4 Studio is out. Right now there really are any options if you need RT. (no, notebook is not an option as its crazy expensive for little value)
Pity: the M3 would have supported it.

Still using a M1 Ultra studio base configuration and it still meets my needs to photo editing. Was considering an upgrade in the next year or two, but absolutely no rush as far as I am concerned.
I purchased an M2 Ultra Studio last year when Micro Center put it on sale for $500 or so off. I never owned the M1 edition, but I still use a 16" MBP with the M1 Max in it.

For my needs so far? Either of these machines has been more than adequate. At the prices I paid for each of them, though? This is exactly what I expected from them. I feel like the updates to the M series CPUs are decent on paper, but in real-world daily use? The vast majority of us could use any of them and only tell a difference between them in a minor sense. (EG. "Hey, I timed it and noticed this one finished my rendering job a few seconds faster." or "This one seems to take a second or two less time to load my application up.")

It's still more important to configure what you need with adequate RAM and disk storage space, and then you're basically set.

We own an M1 and an M2 Studio: the difference in calculation power is as to be expected but little,
the overall power difference is hardly measurable. I expect the same from M4 and M5 versions.
The only reason to wait for a newer M# is the expected support span: some day the M1 won't get updates any more.
An investment in oversized SSD and Memory is a matter of lifespan, hypothetically.

There are two potential new chips Apple could announce - the M3 Ultra or the M4. What points to the latter is detailed here. But I don't think that's likely, because new M-series chips have always been included initially in Macs ever since they were called M-series chips, so having an iPad be the first device with the M4 chip would be odd.
The first Apple product with an M4 was the latest version of the iPad Pro, so if apple is going to bring out a new version of iPad Pro my guess is that it would be a M5.

I'm thinking that if Apple brings out a new version of the Studio, it will be a NOT be an M3, but based on the M4, Apple is not going to bring out an higher end machine and use an older less powerful chip instead of the latest and greatest (which is the M4).
