Meh, this realistically isnt an issue for anyone at all. There are perfectly good chargers out there that do the exact same thing, and as has already been pointed out, you'll rarely need a the high powered one for an M1/M2 mac. My 16" M1 pro under consistent load runs fine off of my monitors 62w power.

I got one for my 14" and never use it, because the Aukey Omnia is so much more practical. Hyperfast charging is overrated.

Everything's getting delays these days...
Thank got that between November 2021 and now I pretty much overhauled my whole setup.

iPhone 13, M1 Ultra Mac Studio and a Studio Display.
I'm set for 2/3 years.

Not that I care about Apple's chargers in particular, they're hardly industry-leading, but it could be a sign for things to come (or not come) in the entire segment I guess.

Apple's 67W and lower USB-C power adapters are more readily available at this time.

That's the real news here.

It's been mostly consistent availability of the 30-Watt (MacBook Air) USB-C charger and 100% consistent availability of the 20-Watt (iPads, iPhones, iPod touch) USB-C adapter for the past year with nothing higher being even remotely available. Haven't even seen the 67-Watt (13" M2 and lower-end 14" MacBook Pro) USB-C charger on store shelves since replacing the 61-Watt (13" M1 and Intel MacBook Pro) USB-C charger.

I wonder what the status of the Magsafe cables alone is.

The thing is you can just get any USB-C charger if you're waiting for one of Apple's bricks or charge off a USB-C monitor.
The cables are readily available, last time I checked? The problem I have as a 16" MBP M1X owner is that ever since I bought it, I couldn't get ahold of a >100 watt USB-C power adapter anywhere. It's not a matter of Apple just having theirs in short supply. It's that industry-wide, almost nobody is making a higher wattage one like that. And I believe the 140 watt power level exceeds the standard for USB-C anyway.

Laptop batteries are restricted to under 100 watts by the FAA. So a 140 watt charger might not be allowed to be used on an airline?
Lithium batteries are restricted to 100 watt hours by the FAA. Wh is a measurement of stored power, such as in a battery, so the restriction wouldn't apply to a charger which doesn't store any power.

These are the adapters I was thinking of. Use an old MagSafe 1 or 2 charger and the adapter makes usb c.

I assume the same would be possible with MagSafe 1/2 providing power, adapting it to MagSafe 3.

Maybe not as elegant but I have dozens of these chargers at client locations and at home.
Ah thanks for that, that's handy to know, considering the number of spare MagSafe 2 chargers I have lying around.

Maybe you could now find a female to female USB-C PD adaptor, and chain it together and plug the MagSafe 3 cable into it. I presume it would work.

Apple's 96W and 140W USB-C power adapters for the 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro continue to face significant shipping delays when purchased separately.

In the United States, the adapters are currently available for delivery in an estimated 6-8 weeks on Apple's online store, resulting in a delivery date as late as October 3. The adapters have multi-week shipping delays in several other countries as well.

Apple's higher-wattage power adapters have been in short supply for a long time now. In September 2021, the 96W adapter was shipping in a lengthy 2-3 months, and the adapter is still experiencing availability issues nearly a year later.

Last week, Apple said it continued to experience supply constraints during the June quarter, but the company does expect the shortages to improve during the September quarter. Shipping estimates for iPhones, iPads, Macs, and other devices have greatly improved since early 2022, but some products are still delayed considerably, such as the Mac Studio with the M1 Ultra chip and the Studio Display with nano-texture glass.

I'd suggest a Anker Nano II 100W charger for $84.99 with two USB-C and a USB-A for a watch. For the 140W class, there is the Anker 717 with a single USB-C port for $99.99 Same price as Apple. The 140W unit from Apple is showing delivery as soon as September 21 if you are lucky. Amazon can ship you the 717 August 6 and it's an hour short of August 5 now.

You will always have (n) devices and (n-1) chargers. Always one charger short.
This math holds up :)
we have 2 mac laptops, both with magsafe2 and we supposedly have something like 5 chargers kicking around yet we somehow only ever have access to 1 charger at a given time.
