Apple supplier Quanta is gradually resuming its production of MacBooks at its Chinese plant following the easing of lockdowns in Shanghai, reports DigiTimes.

Order pull-ins are also said to be slowly turning strong at the production facility, according to supply chain sources, which should boost the availability of MacBook Pro models and shorten the extended delivery times that Apple customers have been experiencing in recent weeks.

Several MacRumors readers waiting on MacBook Pro models ordered in March and April had their shipments significantly delayed due to Apple's supply issues. According to analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, Quanta is the sole supplier of high-end MacBook Pros, which have seen delivery times increase by three to five weeks since the China lockdowns. Some MacBook Pro configurations currently are not available for delivery until late June running into early July.

Despite the gradual resumption of MacBook Pro production, supply issues are expected to impact product sales in the third quarter of 2022. Apple last week said that lockdown disruptions in China and silicon shortages will continue to make it difficult to make enough product to satisfy strong consumer demand, and this will ultimately affect Apple's June quarter revenue.

The last few weeks? Availability has been nil since launch. We've sold systems at the start of November that Apple finally fulfilled in mid-March! This only made things worse.
Well…I mean….the source is Digititmes. They don’t have the greatest reputation, which I would say is like maybe like a 20% accuracy rate with their ‘insight/predictions’.

All I can think of is those poor factory workers that will be locked in at work, not allowed to leave their bubble for weeks to come and the worst is, the executives are probably happy about that ... more productivity! what else you gonna do, if you are stuck at work 24/7 than work to keep you mentally alive

Ordered a MBP 14 in May with a shipping date of 8-20 June. Will be interesting to see if this time frame holds, if it gets delayed further or, fingers crossed ships sooner.
Currently tied to a desk with an M1 mini, so really need a laptop. I thought about buying refurbished, but as this is my first MacBook I wanted it to be fully new.

China is in self destruct mode, at the beginning of the lockdown, western governments were asking companies to leave China, but there were a lot of hesitations. Now China is letting companies go without those governments having to do anything.
Agree, companies will start to look else where to friendly nations, their stance with Russia is not exactly helping either

I understand wanting “new” but I bought a refurbished M1 MacBook Air from Apple and nothing felt used about it. Just saying…

I tend to think it is location dependent for what you mention here. I can go to my local Best Buy here stateside and purchase one of the available units there, walking out with it today. A friend of mine in Canada went to their local store and purchased one immediately, too, fairly recently.

Funny, I was just reading this article when I got a message from Apple saying that my MacBook Pro, which I ordered in early February, will now not be delivered until late June or early July. I was originally told early April. Who knows, by that time they will probably have come out with a newer one and I can cancel the order. Hopefully my old machine holds out until then. I know it's not their fault, that China is shut down, but it doesn't make it any less frustrating. I feel like Apple should give us some kind of incentive to hold out.

I can’t understand how hard must be for the companies to adopt a strategy in times like this in order to maintain sales with new products, and more important how you can deliver them in a reasonable time to avoid people’s madness and/or to lose those profits. You have to maintain hype and can’t lock new purchases, at the same time, you can’t bug your customers waiting forever for them. Whatever you do is gonna piss somebody, I won’t like to be in their shoes for this track, cause it’s a hard work IMHO. You can’t afford to lose customers and you can’t afford to lock new ones. And this is not exclusive to Apple.

These MBPs have been affected from the beginning with a serious chip shortage, not just because of the global situation, but also a lot of M1 Max presumably were reserved in order to be able to release Mac Studio, that’s why during November-January M1 Pro orders were given 2-4 weeks waiting periods instead of 1.5-2months for the M1 Max, not to mention some SSD contaminations and the air routes/some supplies being affected by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.

For the majority of the cases, if your order was made directly through Apple, the deadlines were more or less respected, even the timeframes were generous, but nevertheless, they’ve been “on time”. I ordered an M1 Pro on 2021 and an M1 Max on 2022, and both were delivered on the timeframe Apple told me, with the second I was a lucky bastard though, I was just one week away from being affected from this news. This situation hasn’t been as that with the resellers, and I won’t judge why, but it’s a real PITA for the reseller business as well as to the final customer if it’s their only option available to get a MBP.

These last weeks, situation in China with COVID has been really hard, specially in Shanghai as you read from the news where the city stopped nearly a month. So even people that did their orders on early February for M1 Max are being pushed till June/July (read it here and also on Reddit) … they have to fulfill a whole one-two month delay, not to mention, all of the orders that were placed during this period that are more than likely to be affected, with one push in their dates as their “expected” ones begin to expire.

Summarizing, best option as some other members mentioned, if you need the machine now is to get refurb to avoid waiting for several months (at least 2 to 4) before placing a new order … but with custom configs, this is another story.

For those who are still waiting or you're forced to wait, keep it strong, cause at least this is good news. My best wishes to you.

All we can do is to have “a little” patience as Guns’n’Roses said.

Ive been waiting for my MBP 7 months no joke. Sometimes I wonder if I should just cancel the order and wait for the M2.
That’s insane. I would have canceled an tried a reorder a long time ago. I’ve never heard of that. I had an 8 week wait for 16” Max/64/2tb.
What on earth was your order that could cause that. Doesn’t even seem possible.

I was suppose to receive my MBP next week. Just got a text from Apple saying my MBP ordered Feb 18th is now expected to deliver June 28-July11…

The production of new mbp14/16 is quite limited since the very first day. I expected that and placed the orders of 2 mbp14(incuding a 8TB/m1 pro/32g)and 3 mbp16 (all m1 max) asap. They all delivered within 5-9 weeks from Dec last year to Mar this year. The mbp16’s waiting time is longer then mbp14 about 2 weeks at least.

I ordered a dell precision 5760 mobile workstation and waited for 8 weeks by the end of Feb 2022. Just a few months before the new 5770 announced ???

So we all known the M2 MBP/MBA will be there this Jun in WWDC, then the production will be more complicated.

I think there’s a little chance to finish all the orders placed in Feb/Mar before WWDC.

Apple's new 14 and 16-inch MacBook Pro models that launched on October 26, 2021.

Sorry dude…… that’s 6 months plus 8 days ?

This won't make anyone feel better (as far as waits) but I had wavy plastic trim and got a hold of Apples Retail Executive Relations Groups thru an email to Tim Cook directly.
They got a replacement 16" for me pulled from production and at my door in 2 weeks total.
I was amazed after my 8 week wait... though replacement had plastic trim part by hinges that showed worse waviness so sent it rite back and kept original.
They offered me Hard Drives for my video work, etc. As the Apple exec was very kind and wanted to make it right for me... I settled for a few Apple Watch bands for my 7 Titanium and lived happily ever after.
This was early March. Original order was Dec 15th 2021. So the right people/dept can help at times.

Either way its insane these wait times though these are insane times all around. But I'm sure once you get your MBP's you will be damned pleased. I replaced my 2019 16" and this one is so worth waiting for.
