I am definitely not attaching my iPad to a Neo as a keyboard then.

Not only are they an insulting joke - I bought another one when the 't' key stopped working - and 't' doesn't work with the new, too!!! #$^#$^@# Apple Support was no help. No solution, still. Very frustrating.

Ok, you aren't forced to buy them. Other options are out there.
I tried a couple non-Apple keyboards. They were absolute JUNK for $100-150. Even Belkin’s.
Got an open-box Magic Keyboard for my iPad Air and it’s as good as a MacBook. The prices are absurd, but it’s the only one with a functional trackpad and the correct amount of keyboard travel.

On an iPad Pro M5 here and I have been looking for alternatives but was also not able to find anything with the combination of: Weight and dimensions, functionality(additional USB port and connecting/charging through the back without taking the USB-C port or using BT as I didn't want one with a battery due to weight and connection/charging hassle. My old M1 had the Logitech as a decent alternative but the ones for the newer models are nearly as expensive and have significantly degraded in material quality and esthetic... So yeah, no real third party alternatives thus the price not coming down.

To add my two scents, I bought three cheaper keyboards first for my 13" M1 Pro, over $349 combined; one didn't work at all, one broke within 3 months (no response to my return requests), and the LogiTech worked but not on my lap (then don't advertise the combo as a "laptop replacement", mmm-kay?!?)
Finally got the Magic; wish I'd started there.

You can get better deals. I got a 13” pro keyboard from Best Buy open box for $240. It looked brand new.
Yes, they cost a lot. But it is what it is and they work better, in my experience, than any of the alternatives.

Not sure why it should offend you.
You’re comparing peripherals with computers, sure the latter has a keyboard but it’s in a completely different product segment. The Neo is priced ultra competitively as a laptop to appeal to the student market, probably a loss leader. The MKBs are premium peripherals for the luxury products they compliment.
But, if it offends you, then don’t buy a MKB.

Totally get where you are coming from. It really irked me to spend the money for the Magic Keyboard. However it’s pretty much flawless.
Prices cannot be compared like that because they have nothing to do with how much something else costs.
Apple charges what they think they can sell it at, and the price goes up when there is no competition or the competition is weak.
My Magic Keyboard for the M5 Pro is fantastic. I haven't owned one prior to getting my M5 iPP and now I am certain that I will never again be without a Magic Keyboard (for so long as that product exists, anyway). If it broke, I would go to the store immediately. I'd stop whatever it is I'm doing and I'd go get a new one. Pricing is relative to how much you enjoy something. Once I'm done using this keyboard and I break down how much it cost to use per day, it'll be nothing compared to how much I enjoyed it. If the product is top-of-the-line, which it is, then the price isn't insulting.

Yeah I don't know why some people are offended by the price of something they absolutely don't have to buy. It's not like the price of gas or eggs. I guess they do view it as something they have to buy or should be able to buy for the price they want (entitlement).
What to do when there’s no real alternative. I’m currently using old Magic Keyboard as stand for my m5 with Magic Trackpad and Bluetooth keyboard. It is trash.
