So, what are you using ? (honest question, I'd like to have an independent and trustworthy solution for Cloud backup)
I just use Finder to make weekly encrypted iDevice backups on my Mac. My Mac uses FileVault and its Time Machine backups are also encrypted. It's inconvenient compared to iCloud but I'm okay with that.

Make message, Photos and notifications sync properly.
What happened with Photo Stream? It used to be flawless but about a month ago it simply stopped working for me. Turning it off and on did nothing but delete the photos that were there, leaving a blank album that doesn’t update.

Now can they make it so sync actually works and stops erasing my Pages docs on iPad?
Yeah, seriously, I have no idea why anyone trusts iCloud. It is not even close to being reliable. If you use iCloud, then you still need a backup service.

Maybe the piece of absolutely complete garbage crap they call iCloud Drive should be fixed first before doing anything else. It has NEVER worked properly.

Computer 1 (this space usage is correct)

$ du -hd1 Documents/ | tail -n 1
408G Documents/

Computer 2 (and here we are at almost double used for the SAME files)

$ du -hd1 Documents | tail -n 1
740G Documents

2.5 TRILLION dollar company.
Yep, iCloud is a complete t*rd. I simply can't believe that anyone would trust it, or pay for it. I find it super annoying how damn pervasive it is on Apple devices, I just want it to go away. It would be fine if it actually worked properly; actually encrypted everything before uploading to Apple's servers, instead of retaining the ability to scan my data for whatever reason The Ministry of Thought Apple decides is ok, either now or in the future (I shudder); actually was reliable and didn't lose files and data; didn't cost an insane fortune to be large enough to actually store all my data on all my devices; and could handle multiple accounts well.

iCloud is a mess. With each passing day I ask myself again if anyone of influence at Apple actually uses their devices and services. They are probably connected to their own in-house system and are blissfully unaware that iCloud sync actually sucks for the plebeians. An option to force a refresh would be nice, but that would mean acknowledging that it doesn't "just work".
"It Just Works" was quietly abandoned many years ago. In the same way that Google's "Do No Evil" internal motto was quietly abandoned.

The only reason why I even use iCloud Drive is backing up photos and devices, not for any true storage of files and such. File versioning from other cloud storage providers has saved me so many times. I am completely aware of Pages, Keynote, and Numbers. But I use so many other types of files.

I never had an issue with iCloud Drive or iCloud Documents. I turned on iCloud Drive/Data whenever it was available and no issues. I did not even know they eliminated one. I did not lose any information. I have Onedrive also and I use iCloud storage (I have the 2TB through Apple One) more because it actually syncs with my Apple devices. Onedrive is a pain, it takes a long time to sync and you have to push it sometimes manually.

On of the main annoyances with iCloud Drive is that you cannot sync all the folders on your Mac. It has to be Desktop or Document folders. In addition you can't sync other drives or see the upload progress of each file.

When I try to use iCloud Photos it always fails and half of the photos don't get uploaded.

Google drive was not much better either. The only cloud storage I have found that works and I trust is Tresorit. I want to use iCloud because I trust it enough, but as others have said, it doesn't flow well. It is a mess in many ways. Apple should buy Tresorit. Problem solved.

I’ve been using iCloud Drive like Dropbox for years. The only drawback is the files I store on iCloud take up physical space in the Library my boot drive. Other than the lack of location management, iCloud beats Dropbox in many ways.

1. iCloud Sharing, which works in Messages and Mail is wonderful. Huge files can be sent to anyone with an email or text address, and iCloud creates a link for the recipient. (slightly simpler than Dropbox).

2. Although Dropbox can be integrated into Files locations, it’s not as seamless as iCloud Drive.

3. Being able to store the Keychain, manage Private Relay, Hide My Email, and other services is great. (I realize Apple wouldn’t give these types of permissions to a 3rd party, regardless the features are nice).

4. iCloud syncing can be slow, but the name Dripbox is well deserved.

This is a short list. Could iCloud use some improvement? Yes! 100%. Apple certainly should make the effort to make iCloud the best offline/online sharing and storage app in the Apple ecosystem, and include updates with each new OS release. Apple needs to be aggressive about this. Show us that they understand the problems and give us a clue about it’s roadmap. Slowly but surely it’s becoming a great solution. I could stop using Dropbox and not really notice it.

“On of the main annoyances with iCloud Drive is that you cannot sync all the folders on your Mac. It has to be Desktop or Document folders.“

Not true technically. I keep iCould Drive (root level), and it’s Documents folder (or any folder that’s in iCloud) in the Finder Sidebar, and I can drag and drop any file I want from my Mac and it syncs with all of my devices, putting the file(s) in the correct directory within seconds. Yes, you can to copy the file manuall, but that’s basic.

whats going on just now. my icloud don't work , my airdrop cannot and forget two name some more ?

I'll say it for the second time in this thread, cos certain people ain't listening: don't rely on, or even contemplate on using, iCould as a backup service. I don't think Apple could say it more clearly that on Macs it is NOT a backup service. It's a file-sync'ing service. There is no versioning, and if you accidentally delete something from the iCould Drive on one device it will disappear from all your devices and from iCloud.com. So it is NOT a backup service. (The so-called ability to restore from deleted items for 30 days on iCloud.com is sketchy as f--- and I know from personal experience it doesn't work correctly).
