Samsung's market share is steadily decreasing in Japan, accounting for only 7% of the market as of Q4 2013 (down from 17% in Q4 2012), which is remarkably low considering Samsung's success around the world. LG's numbers are too low to even count.

Thanks, that's true.

Still, Samsung is ahead of some other Japanese makers, whose sales are also decreasing. Fujitsu for example. Not sure about NEC and Sanyo. And Panasonic stopped selling altogether.

I was in Japan when the iPhone came out (and still am now), and the iPhone has never struggled here. There were long lines and sellouts from day one. It has always been successful in Japan.

Early reports from Japan said otherwise. I keep records going back to the beginning.

iPhone sales were around 2-3% at first. After Softbank later offered it for free, it almost instantly jumped to 12% of their sales, and it's been going up since then.

There are also many Android phones available for "free" from the major carriers here as well.

It speaks well of the iPhone that it's a favorite choice when its price is the same as others.

Thanks! How does it look now? Anything else I should fix? I will make sure to have you triple check my handy work.

Japan? That's it? No other country? Maybe they have smaller hands and pockets than the rest of planet earth. They're going to complain big time when iPhone 6 comes out.

If by early reports, you're referring to the Wired article, then you might want to read about how the source used for the article felt about it.
