Weirdly photostream seems to have been nerf'd on my iMac but I still have photo's taken with my iPhone showing up on my iPad... I remember when my Apple stuff 'just worked' - I spend as much time trying to fix issues between updates now as I used to on a PC...

I use photo stream everyday for the last decade, it’s how I easily get images back and forth between devices, I tried iCloud photos and I do not want 20,000-30,000 photos in the cloud especially ones that don’t need a back up. I can’t believe this. I’m willing to even give up iCloud space/pay for the most recent 1000 photos on all my device because it’s easy. The image is automatically on all the devices and I don’t have to email it to myself Or go log in somewhere to get it. Ugh

Maybe i should put this in it's own thread, but i have a sister that as a 'My Photostream' with about 10,000 photos in it and she needs to put them into iCloud Photos. What is the easiest way to do this?

The easiest way to do this is linked in the first sentence of the post.

My problem is that I currently have many albums that I sync from my pc to iPhone and iPad using iTunes. They’re all organised on the of into separate folders for each event/place etc. They then appear as separate albums on the device when synced. As I understand, with iCloud Photos enabled this will no longer be possible.

Hi there.

Is it possible to use a service other than Apple storage for this - or is Apple storage the only (and possibly the best) way this will work in terms of syncing and storing photos in the Apple ecosystem...?

Thanks

Sparky

I have a question for everyone.

I have always left iCloud turned off on my main use phone where I could back up all the photos to a backup hard drive every month or so.

If I turn on iCloud and let it manage the space on my phone which I will have to do because I have 290,000 photos in iCloud....will I still be able to back up the photos I take on the phone or will that put a stop to that?

The way I understand it, the only way to have the photos where I can back them up once I turn on iCloud would be to let it download all 290,000 iCloud Photos to the phone (which it won't hold)....is that right?

i have a 2012 Mac mini that acts as a backup machine. It downloads all originals stored in iCloud for 4 different people’s accounts and that computer has a Time Machine badkup permanently Connected. Separately, I regularly connect 2 other drives via USB and copy all the photo library’s onto those drive too.

Sad to see another Steve Job era service close down, but I honestly forgot this existed. It had a use in 2011 but not so much now. Annoying for all the people who integrated it into their photo management though.

My photo stream on my iPhone 13 still shows pictures from last summer, almost a year ago. Shouldn’t they have dropped off by now?

Mines stopped yesterday, I was getting ready to show some one the photos on my iPad I took today on my phone and then I realized they hadn’t upload so I’ll either have to send em to myself by email if I want it on all my devices or wait until i can get to my phone.

Thanks, that is a really good idea!

I have everything saved on iCloud in different folders for all the iPhones I have had over the years...to keep them separate.

I wish iCloud would let you filter all the photos by the type of iPhone they were took with, that would seem easy to implement and it would be handy.

Whoa how do you have 4 different iCloud accounts running at the same time on one machine? I thought that was not possible.

It might have been useless to some people, but I personally liked the fact that when I took a photo on my phone, it showed up on my computer - WITHOUT having to pay for the privilege of having all 18,000 photos in my library stored in the cloud.
YES! this was originally offered as a feature! "Cook's " is slowly highjacking all of the features brought in with the advancement of Wifi, Continuity, and Handoff to try and force users into a subscription plan—this is a step backwards and a loss.

How do i find My Photostream? most of the things i have are transferred to iCloud....is there a direct website address for it?

Seriously. they could not have made the demise of this service more confusing to the "it just works" users. They should have implemented a simple "download my photostream images to this device/send and store to icloud photos button.

I actually just made a thread an hour or so ago. It used to be so simple, but now I can't for the life of me figure out how to get my photos from the phone to the computer without going back to the "dark ages" and physically plugging the cable in. I don't understand why they've made it so complicated.
