I can not wait to find out what Apple do with this. Free MobileMe, add a suite of online iLife/iWork programs, or just some "magical" form of cloud based computing?

Most likely, it's for streaming all iTunes content directly to Macs/iOS devices.

It will be interesting to see what Apple uses it for. I doubt they will ever even mention the data center specifically, just release some new streaming service that is clearly being served from there.

They probably would have preferred its existence never hit the media. Unfortunately with the tax benefits they got that was impossible.

So Apple is trading earthquakes in SoCal for hurricanes in North Carolina?

It seems like a better area, and better trade, because massive hurricanes don't happen that often, but they do happen. Wouldn't Apple have been better off buying an old missile silo or cutting into the mountains in North Carolina to put something underground? With so much data concentrated in one building (egg), where is there redundancy or backup (basket)?

I wonder if this is the reason why Apple hasn't enabled wireless syncing with your local machine... because they are gearing up to enable wireless syncing to the cloud!

Who would use cloud syncing if you have a data limitation?

Wild idea: Changing their headquarters location?

Didn't Boeing do it?

it's one thing moving business types and boeing has offices around the world. apple is mostly concentrated on their campus and those people aren't going to move anywhere with no Whole Foods or Starbucks or decent sushi and other unamerican foods. i've been to places with only redneck food, and it gets old pretty fast
