is there going to be an update option for those who have already bought an "old" imac i7? I do want ssd in my machine and i dont want to break the guarantee.
Sure. Boot Camp offers to resize the existing partition to make room for the new "BOOTCAMP" (Windows) partition. Can you still partition the SSD to run Mac and then windows on another Partition on the SSD?
Anyone considering the dremel hole for an esata interface to the second SATA port? Sounds like a total winner to me!![]()
Nope. Phone sales are the same options.
I'm confused... What "charges" are you talking about?
I've financed a number of products from Best Buy, Dell, etc., and the process is always the same. As long as you make your monthly payments on time, and completely pay off your purchase within the allotted "no interest" period, there are no additional charges.
In every instance so far, I've made my payments and never paid extra charges for it.
If you choose to not make minimum payments every month or do not pay off your purchase in during the "no interest" period, then you are, well, screwed.
It might be awkward to use if Apple OSX doesn't support hot swapping the drive.
* Then, after warranty ends, self-install an additional solid-state drive. They’ll be cheaper by then!
No USB 3 or ESATA? FAIL!
FYI.. unless previously mentioned... there is no need for TRIM support on a modern SSD harddrive with garbage collection.
I want to know the brand/model of the 256GB SSDs Apple uses to make sure I get a modern Sandforce SSD or similar chipset SSD with Garageband collection...
Jobs has been pretty clear that it won's support USB until Intel does.
My harddrive might be failing with 36 days left on my 1 year warranty. I'm gonna have Apple install an SSD alongside the new HD if I have it repaired... if it'll fit.

and I would want to make sure I get an SSD that will be safe in an iMac / Apple approved
256 GB SSD is not worth 600 bucks.
it is depending on which one, but i can guarentee you, apple will use the cheapest possible ********* SSD they can find, that means
no sandforce
no crucial controler
no OCZ revo cards
the best you can hope for is like 200MB/s read, the OCZ revo gets over 600MB/s read (some go up to 800MB/s)
oh BTW a regular 2.5" sandforce controled 256GB is $500ish, a 2TB HDD is $90
