Is it better to buy the AirPod 3 over the pros? I don’t care about the noise cancellation and they are currently the same price. AirPod Pro is $179 on Amazon and AirPod 3 is also $179 on apple’s site. Not sure which ones to buy.
If you don't need noise cancellation (and don't care about having ear tips) it seems like the new AirPods would be better imo especially since it lasts an hour or more longer.

So will the Airpod Pros be updated soon?

Apple have simply guaranteed that I will buy no Airpods for the foreseeable future.

Who would, with this ambiguity hanging over the lineup?

I want to buy my family a set of Airpod Pros each for Christmas.

But that's a pretty crap present if they could be updated in January.
Unfortunately that's the game you play with Apple. The only thing you can be nearly positive of is new iPhone models in September or October.

Depends on your ears. I suggest Airpods Pro but some people hate this silicon inside ears and prefer normal Airpods.

I could take or leave the silicone tips on the Pro's if they didn't offer me an improved fit over the 3/2/1's. I'm one of those weirdos for whom regular ear buds have never worked well. I've always been jealous of the rest of you. They just don't fit for me. That part of my ear must be too big or something. They don't "sit." They're loose and fall out all the time. I know there are modifications you can do (adding wings or whatever they're called, for ex), but they don't work for me as they're sold.

The Pro's don't fit perfectly, but they fit much better than the 3/2/1's. The silicone tip helps it stay put. Headphones are the best though. With those I don't have to worry at all.

Apple today updated the AirPods lineup with the AirPods 3, which feature an AirPods Pro-like design featuring shorter stems, spatial audio support, Adaptive EQ, longer battery life, HD voice quality for FaceTime, IPX4 water resistance, a MagSafe case, and more.

The new AirPods are priced starting at $179, which is $20 cheaper than the prior AirPods 2 with Wireless Charging Case, and Apple is also keeping the AirPods 2 around as a lower-cost option. Apple's full AirPods lineup now looks like this:
  • AirPods 2 - $129
  • AirPods 3 - $179
  • AirPods Pro - $249
  • AirPods Max - $549
It's worth noting that Apple has also introduced a new version of the AirPods Pro that come with a MagSafe Charging Case like the AirPods 3. The MagSafe Charging Case is able to quickly align with MagSafe charging pad options.

New AirPods Pro purchases will come with the MagSafe Charging Case, but for those wondering if you can get the case on a standalone basis, you can't. Apple does not plan to offer the MagSafe Charging Case on its own, so there will be no upgrade option. The standard AirPods Pro wireless charging case can be used with MagSafe anyway because it's a Qi-based wireless charging protocol. All that's missing is the magnetic alignment.

The AirPods 3 can be pre-ordered from Apple's website starting today, and are set to arrive to customers next week.

Apple should have started the old AirPods @99$. Anybody paying over 100$ for this old and simple tech product in 2022 still is not getting a good deal. To be frank 99$ is already way too much. The only justification is integration into the eco system. And considering bluetooth audio is a must in many apple products like the watch I feel they should offer at least one cheap version. I would still buy the pros which I love. But for people buying an SE watch adding 130$ to the cost is quite hefty imho.

I've owned four pairs of AirPods since their release and all four have faults :/ Never buying another pair again. The main one and every single one do this, when you take them out of the case and only one pairs.... so you then have to put them back in and take them out again. It is a 50/50 chance that they do it, and they all do it, even when they're new. However now 3 of the 4 are suffering from really low volume... I guess it's the battery inside, but they're impossible to fix. Two of them have developed cracking in the case as well.

They're not worth the price for how short a lifespan they have. I have a £10 pair of Ankers that I bought in like 2015, they're the type with a wire connecting.... but they still work with no problems.

Well, here in Germany AirPods 3 are more expensive than AirPods Pro  Easy choice.

I have several Airpods gen 2 and use them entire day. I also have Airpods Pro which I don't like because they sound tinny. Not sure if that's a poor fit but I did try all ear tips and I typically like in ear/sealed design. My thinking is that it something to do with design, possibly smaller magnets/speakers in Pro. Now that Gen 3 is out, how likely they will sound closer to 3 than 2?
