There was a three trillion dollar demand shortfall in this country overnight, and Not a single economic model in the world has been able to find any combination of conditions, no matter how absurdly unrealistic, to return unemployment to anywhere near what it was before that, because the demand is gone, the valuation of both supplies and demand is gone with it.

There is simply not enough work to do, for all americans to be able to work 40 hr workweeks, and maintain our old high cost of living. Congratulations. This is actually the ultimate purpose of all this technology in the first place. ...the labor expectations and laws just need to catch up, is all.

...But a 15 million salary isn't much to be rattled about, if you're looking for a boogeyman.

can anyone explain the difference between a controller and comptroller to me in words I would understand?

Here's to the crazy ones ... or the risk adverse, penny pinching (you want to use glass and metal, do you know how much that's going to cost?), blue chip, button down guys from Xerox and GM. Which isn't fair at all, but I hope he's not a negative influence. Which I hope is also true of Adobe's former CTO - but at least Adobe works on pro applications and communicates.

To be fair, in Xerox's history they've funded more blue sky, crazy, whacky, out of the box research (research across pretty much all fields that's helped.. well, pretty much everyone), than apple and adobe combined have, or likely ever will.

It really is too bad that PARC is a shadow of its former self.

It's sad that so many people trash the guy JUST because he now has a great job with excellent benefits. If any of the $7/hr working stiffs could do what he does, then he wouldn't be so valuable.

He worked incredibly hard to get where he is. It's not possible to get a job like this without being incredibly talented and driven. I admire people like him because he is very desired in his business. We should all be so lucky.

Or, we could call him a fatcat, mention all the poor people in this country, and complain that he gets more money than most of us will make in a lifetime. Whatever helps you feel better about yourself.

Hooray. Another fat cat gets stock worth $15 MILLION for sitting on his lazy arse while 90% of everyone else in the country makes $7 an hour working theirs off. That is a newsworthy RUMOR?
Cry me a river.
One random forum member does not care. The staff at MacRumors do not care. I wonder who else does not care.

On a serious note it's up to us as readers to choose the good articles to read and not read the terrible ones. But with misleading article titles it's hard to tell the difference between the good and bad articles until you go in and read them. And at that point the rumour website has already won, they have the article page hit from you.

he's controlling the finances for one of the biggest companies on earth. it's five times more money because the market can't find a team of 5 people to do what this guy does.

we live in a time where an individual can make a difference on this planet more than 20 people can (in their respective fields)

this is the free enterprise. it's what the market bears.

why do i have hunch you have actually no idea who this is (his qualififications, his ranking amongst peers etc) or what you are talking about and are just repeating the contents of some brochure you read?

btw john browett another high impact genius says high

They don't want to update iWork, Aperture or FCPX because they don't want to spend additional money on new developers (current one work on iOS apparently), but they have no problem throwing millions of dollars to some new guys?

Did that happened under Jobs area also?

Without great products (iPad, Ipods, Iphones, macs,..) would this fat "executives" worth millions of dollar still make Apple number one company in the world? Of course not.....so why are engineers paid usual salary (still big mind you, but not millions like this VIP suit) and this suit's get millions?

It always bugs me when people with ideas and who actually produces products gets paid in peanuts and some executives gets all the glory.

This guy worked for xerox for 2 years...he have nothing to do with PARC. So he won't bring new ideas from PARC.

Wow - he sounds and looks like a villain

Actually Steve jobs looks like a villain

You do realize your statements are completely subjective and have no basis in truth? Although I agree he looks rather nefarius. Steve Jobs on the other hand...no way.

i'm sure if you asked apple why he's worth 15M, they could tell you. and they would also tell you why the min wage people aren't worth 15M over 4 years.

who was saying minimum wage workers should get almost $4m a year?

apple has hard enough time to offer up to date hardware and software so maybe we should let them be. the next story on macrumors might be that the call centre folks have been pulled to the ios division

Y'all jealous. Don't hate. I think it's great that in this country if you work hard and achieve, you get rewarded. Of course, luck is a big factor, and there certainly are a slew of zeros who have lots of money while contributing little to society and others who have little and contribute a lot. Not a perfect system, but allow free markets to work, and the incentive to achieve and produce value are increased, thereby creating a more productive society.

Speaking of luck, what a gr8 time to get shares after the stock has taken a massive nosedive since $700.

Tax Game

Here is the deal...he is given stock..he sells it right away and is only liable for a fifteen percent capital gains tax: NO income tax, NO Medicare Tax, No state income tax....small salary....

Corporate Controller is really just a CFO the interface between the actual company producing value or products and the investors/stakeholders waiting for the money to rain.

Otherwise, he is the one who influence the company either toward investment in better innovation, better products and better prices for the consumers or in the contrary toward more savings and sacrifice of innovation, products quality and specs, and higher prices for the stakeholders to get more cash.

Do you have any idea how much time and hard work as well as study it takes to get to this point in a career like his? Sorry if you were too LAZY to apply yourself when it counted, but this is money he's earned, and calling him "another fat cat" is just an easy way for people to make excuses for their own lack of initiative.

Yeah, right, because everyone else on earth that isn't in the 1% i.e. almost completely EVERYONE else on earth is lazy!

wow, maybe i am wrong, but apple looks like it is going into 85-96 era again.

You don't have a clue about me so do us a favor and stop before you look even more ignorant. I do NOT make minimum wage. Not even CLOSE. I make a good living in engineering. I have two degrees in it and do other creative work on the side (music production as a hobby) so laziness is not a factor. However, unlike some people in this world, I do not condemn hard working people just because they weren't lucky enough to land the right butt kissing job and sorry, but these top executives are out of this world OVER PAID. And frankly, I don't give a blank what you think about it.

I've seen CEOs run a company INTO THE GROUND and still get paid MILLIONS for it in their severance package. And it is that rewarding GARBAGE with tons of money. And let's not forget all those "too big to fail" banks that drove the ENTIRE WORLD ECONOMY into the ground. They still got paid; they got bailed out and now they're more powerful than ever for SCREWING EVERYONE. So get off your high rich horse already. There is no amount of work in this world that is worth $15 MILLION a year in sheer terms of labor (intellectual or otherwise), let alone what some of these people make. You can justify it all day long with company profits, etc., but that just tells me the rest of the employees of the company are probably underpaid and overworked like most in this world. The fact that there are other people that could replace some of those workers is neither here nor there. There are other CEOs out there as well and plenty of up and coming people that could replace most of management. They'll never get the chance. Many companies like Apple pay next to nothing for manufacturing labor by building overseas in god forsaken Communist countries where the people don't even get a chance for an education, regardless of their potential so spare me the "they earned their money" routine. You don't know WTF you're talking about. But keeping talking out your back side anyway. You seem to be good at it.

i'm sure if you asked apple why he's worth 15M, they could tell you. and they would also tell you why the min wage people aren't worth 15M over 4 years.

And I'm sure it has to do with their own greed (including the stock holders, many of whom are also the same type). That doesn't make them good people and it doesn't mean they aren't replaceable. Most people in the top 1% are there because they either got a major break from someone else (right place, right time) or they were born into rich circumstances that gave them the right connections, etc. to start (i.e. there's a reason there have been a father/son combo in the White House and it's not because they're "smart" or "deserve" it). Read about or watch a show on the history of people like Carnegie or Rockefeller. They got where they did by destroying people's lives to feed their own egos. And they got their start because they were lucky enough to have someone else that high up give them a chance. Rockefeller's own oil company start-up was failing big time until Vanderbilt gave him a break. He never would have gotten anywhere in life without that break. So this idea that some people are simply geniuses and everyone else is a moron and deserves to make nothing is nothing but a pile of bullcrap.

There are plenty of intelligent people out there that will never enter the top 1% stratosphere simply due to not being in the right place at the right time. Others wouldn't even want to be there if it was offered since that kind of money and power corrupts big time. There's a reason most religions preach against the ills of money and lust. It destroys your soul's spiritual progress and frankly, that's what you take with you when you die, not money. Unless they are atheists and are right, I wish them good luck explaining all the lives they crushed to get where they got.

I understand my opinion will never be popular with most people, even most poor people because most people wish they could be that rich and/or powerful and if they were, they'd do whatever it took to stay there too. Very few people in this world are the slightest bit enlightened or wise and reading a few responses to my two line opinion demonstrates it over and over.
