If it's gonna stay at 5GB, it should be 5GB per device.

But I agree.

I agree 100% The downside of multiple devices with the same icloud id is that you have to share the 5GB will all the devices and if you use it for backup then it's barely enough for just 1 device.

If Apple gave away 50GB or so, which is feasible these days without much effort, they'd blow the lid off cloud storage. $0.99 for 100GB, $4.99 for 250GB, etc. Google and MS would soon follow, and small companies like DB and Box would either have to really ramp up subscribers or sink.

still better than dropbox lol.

For security, yes. DropBox is notoriously insecure. Or at least they used to be like a year ago.

I just 'upgraded' on my phone to the 20GB plan. The phone icloud storage settings has all the info you need to upgrade.

I'm now paying $8 less for 5GB more storage than I had before!

I have tons of idevices and I keep my iwork documents in the cloud as well as my device backups but I still only use ~5GB of storage.

In a case like that I can see how iCloud really is a huge convenience with it's integration between mobile and home. That's what it's aimed at, I think, because they're also trying to get people to buy iTunes Match and if you could plop all your music in iCloud for a cheaper price they'd lose business!

I just wish they'd increase the amount of songs allowed for iTunes Match. I love the service, but having to pick and choose what goes to the cloud and what doesn't is becoming a pain.

I'm on the old 25GB/$40 plan, and I don't see an option to change to the 20GB/$0.99 plan. I see the options to upgrade to 200GB, 500GB, and 1TB, but the only downgrade option is the free 5GB plan.

Anyone else seeing this? Do I need to downgrade to 5GB, then immediately upgrade to 20GB?

Are you in the U.S.? I didnt have to downgrade, I was actually checking all day to see when the prices would be updated. At one point today, there were zero options to choose from and the 5GB free was the only plan I can go on. The other prices showed up a couple mins before I posted this thread.

I just got the 20GB plan, and now it says I have a total of 20GB. So the 'free' 5GB is included within the 20GB? I thought it should be 25GB total after the 20GB purchase....

My question is do you get the 5GB free added to whatever subscription you choose?

You get the amount stated, WITHOUT the free 5GB tacked on. So if you pay for 20GB of storage, you get 20GB of storage, NOT 25GB.

How does this play into my photos?

I know that photos from the camera roll will use the space, but what about photos I've had pre-iOS 8 launch?

How do I get my folders of photos into iCloud? I'm going to need the 200GB option, but sure don't want to pay for it until Apple FINALLY decides to release more details.

I'm sure I'll have to wait until iOS 8 comes out, but I'm still wondering where can I put my current photos to be seen in the Camera Roll.

Or are we going to have to wait until 2015 for the Yosemite version of Photos?

I'm thrilled this is finally here. With multiple devices, 5gb was not enough and I had to pick and choose which devices got backed up, leaving some out.

If it's gonna stay at 5GB, it should be 5GB per device.

But I agree.

This is the fundamental problem with it. 5GB is not enough to do basic device backups when you have 2+ iOS devices.

Apple is basically taxing us $.99 a month for the 20GB plan for being good customers.

I pay $20/year for 10 GB so I have a total of 15 and iTunes just charged my yearly fee a few weeks ago. For only $12/year I could have 20GB? I hope they upgrade current customers to an equivalent storage amount!

I'm at 20gb for $40 a year. I certainly hope there's a pro-rated refund here. I'm glad to see it at $11.88 for the year of 20gb.

Wish there was a 100gb for $20 a year.

I see that as well. And it still shows my plan being 25gb for $40 a year. I'm waiting a few days to see if pricing updates are adjusted for us 20gb plan people.

Is it possible to pay for the whole year up front once you click buy? Or do they bill your card monthly?

Just paid for the 20gb plan, was expecting the extra 5 free to tack on but no worries. Just glad to be able to back up both my iPhone and iPad now.

so.. my iTunes acct is different from my iCloud acct, which means that both myself and my wife will each have to pay. oh well at least its only $1 a month

i much like the idea of $9.99/yr tho

I didn't change anything, and now it shows me as being currently on a 25GB plan for $11.99/year. I also have an option to downgrade to the 20GB for $0.99/month, or to upgrade to any of the larger new plans.

That was a nice move on Apple's part---Let us keep our 25GB plans that we used to pay $40 for, at the same price as the new 20GB plan.

So double price is only "slightly more"?

Thanks to you and everyone who pointed this out. The first time I read the article, I just did so quickly and thought if it's about the same price, I might give it a go.

Double the price, or more than double if you include the discount Dropbox does for a yearly plan, is not slightly. MacRumors should be embarrassed that the OP hasn't been updated yet to correct what is either an error or very ridiculous spin.
