About a video iPod...

When you listen to your iPod now, you don't use tinny built in speakers do you? Of course not. You plug in headphones. Or you plug it into speakers. Now you could watch video on the built in screen with your video iPod, but it would be less than satisfactory for a lot of purposes. It would be so much better if you could plug it into your TV for playback. I'll bet you $5 the video iPod (if it comes out) has an iBook-style AV port instead of a headphone port, and can use its firewire interface on to play back on any computer or TV that has firewire.

Hey dude,

Speaking of snobs, how snobby can you get? I'm disgusted by other Americans who think that the "American Way" is the ONLY way. On the same token, I'm disgusted by remarks from people like you who do nothing but bag on Americans for the stupidest things. That's just really pathetic.

Et je parle français aussi, mais je suis Americain. :p

video iPod

I just can't see the practicality in a video iPod. Portable music I understand, portable photos I understand, but portable/pocket size movies i don't. I can watch a movie on my iBook on a aeroplane. I guess I could watch a movie on a video iPod on the bus or train in the morning but I don't know it just doesn't sound practical. Apple is about making practical devices for everyday life that anyone could make use of. Besides downloading movies off the internet is not even close to being widely used. DVD players don't even have that high of a market penetration yet. I'm thinking that some sort of cell phone or pda device is next. I just hope they aren't one in the same because i saw a guy with his visor up to his face one day talking on the phone and he looked like an idiot. i like having my phone and my pda as seperate devices, if i could connect them when needed that would be nice.

iPod with color and video?? gimme a break, that sort of thing will just suck 'dem batteries dry (Sega GameGear, anyone?)... even Apple themselves recommend not playing anything longer than 8 minutes, let alone a near 2 hour movie with color AND a mandatory backlight to watch it in the night! i sincerely hope Apple doesnt choose that road and just try to make a be all end all device. they should really just perfect what they have already (like fixing the buggy OS on the iPod and more seamless commands from the control buttons... hmm, maybe a easter egg of snake too?). I just bought my iPod a week ago and just loving it. Its all about Firewire disk mode baby.

Agreed - ditch the video capabilities on the iPod, and spend efforts improving what's already there (tough, since it's so great as is :)).

I'd like to see them incorporate a playlist queue of some kind, so that while you're flipping through the songs, you can select and queue up your own playlist on the ipod. That way, you aren't restricted to playlists that you create on your computer, and you don't have to manually jump to each song.

Also, I like iTune's crossfade playback capabilities, especially when listening to a lot of songs for a long time. It'd be great to see this on the iPod as well.

Hey oldMac

Hey, a political discusion that I didn't started!

The people in the US have their way to see things, most of the time they seem corny to the rest of the world in most aspect. Just think about it:

How in the world you are gonna get experience from another culture or be able to experiment some one elses point of view if all what you need to live is just right there? For example:

In the US if you want to eat or buy anything (computers, books, etc) you just have to pick up the phone and make a call.

If you want to go out, in less than 5 miles around you have evrything.

And better!!!, if you go to the movies, you just are gonna see north american movies...

Tell me the how manny times the US culture has a foreing input?

All what they know is:
Taco Bell.
That in outside their frontiers everything is gorilla forces (but they do not where exactly).
Piña coladas.
And may be that Spain is in Europe.

On the other hand what we have:
We are able to compare our way of live with the US way of live because of their movies (of course we know there are not people like Rambo).
Most of us have travel for a month or live there.
Plus we get some of their news.

In conclusion: the rest of the world has a better undertanding of what is going on with the people in the US than they do with the rest of the world, and that is a circunstances only.

If we go father, remember that for a country such as the US is better to export their culture so future generations can accept them easilly, and that is the problem with the globalization right now.

Globalization is a way to export your colture so then you can export your products. One example that we know: Mac Donalds.

Now, what happen to Mac Donalds, the US (been very generic I know), place a Mac Donald in Venezuela for example, but they pay to the employees abot $150 per month when the prices of the combos are just the same than in the US. Now, the difference of that ammount goes to the US.

That is why most of the people is mad about globalization, because in place of making an entire world better is making ones richiers and others more poor.

So oldMac, remember that you are in a forum where most of the people are kids just thinking in their computers. So do not ask too much from their global knowledge because this is not the place.

wisdom from mymemory

I know mymemory, but you have to understand that I am an American.

I was making fun of Europeans making fun of Americans making fun of Europeans.

I thought it was funny, but not too many folks seemed to get the joke. :)

right on DigiD. user should really have more control of playlists, deleting, renaming, etc. of songs on the iPod itself rather than doing all the dirty work from itunes alone.

Two ways to get really messed up views of the US are to watch our movies and to watch our news. Movies are for entertainment purposes. They don't depict real life. The news is sensationalized. Before Sept 11th here the big story was shark attacks. Now, keep in mind we have maybe 1 shark attack/month here but it made all the news. Next month the big story will be bird migration and how it's affecting nothing at all.

I will tell you that Apple has a secret and it's that all the US iPods have 20gb hard drives while the ones that are exported only have 5gb drives.

Don't make assumptions about all us citizens;)
