Customers who have pre-ordered an M4 iMac, Mac mini, or MacBook Pro will need to update to the latest version of macOS Sequoia after receiving their machines on Friday, November 8.

Apple today released macOS Sequoia 15.1 (build number 24B2083) for the new M4 Mac models, which are shipping with a special version of macOS Sequoia 15.0 (build number 24A8332).

Out of the box, the M4 iMac, Mac mini, and MacBook Pro will not support Apple Intelligence, so to get Apple Intelligence features, customers will need to install macOS Sequoia 15.1. Restoring from a backup of a machine already running macOS Sequoia 15.1 will also necessitate a software upgrade during the transfer process.

macOS Sequoia 15.1 introduces the first Apple Intelligence capabilities, adding Writing Tools, new Siri features and design, notification summaries, smart replies, and more. The update also includes drag and drop for iPhone Mirroring and it enables hearing health features for the AirPods Pro 2.

I thought I once read that Apple has a way of remotely updating software on devices...? 🤔 Maybe it's just iPhones, but I could've sworn I saw such an article here! Not getting AI on devices touted to have AI is like finding out the princess is in another castle 😜

I recall an article on MR about Apple testing such a feature, not that it was possible yet.

Russians already told us MBP M4 ships with 18.0, so this shouldn't be a surprise.

It's so weird them touting the chatgt integration in the demo videos for these new macs

"siri will be able to tap into chatgpt's expertise"

Or you could just use Chat GPT right now really..

It's pretty lame of them to ship broken devices and make people update on day one!
This is more and more typical of a variety of companies, not just Apple.

Why spend money perfecting a product before release when you can just push an update once it’s in a customers hands. It’s all about reducing costs and getting things to market sooner.

nah. they won't be broken, but by the time they are packaged, distributed, marketed, posted, etc., new updates come anyway, so you can't always expect the factory version to be the latest version available by the time you get it. sometimes it may be, but more often than not it isn't.

Apple Intelligence is kind of lame on my MacBook Pro TBH. I don't see the use for it yet. And siri seems to still be just as bad as she's ever been.

This is my fear. I got a Pixel 9 cheap, and if I paid full price for it, I'd be returning it.

I actually had to turn many AI features off. It broke things that worked GREAT 2 years ago.

I haven’t seen an AI that I’m impressed with, I’m trying Apples out on my iPhone but so far the summary feature has routinely claimed the exact opposite of what the person I was speaking to had written. It was a feature that had me mildly excited but I just don’t trust it any more.

I hate how every tech company out there is just shouting “AI everything!” From the rooftops, I hoped given how unreliable it’s been, that Apple wouldn't bother or would wait until it matured, doesn’t seem up to Apple quality to me. I suppose as a plus side it resulted in more RAM for devices and it can easily be switched off 🤷‍♂️

Silly that they couldn't get the update before the launch/announcement.
Also, this will not work in a lot of European countries due to EU laws so half of the customers don't need this update (which is sad for them).

You know how to check build number for the InstallAssistant.pkg even before downloading it?

Replace the g with m at the end of the link to make link to pkm file like this:

Then download the pkm file and open with textedit and you see this:

.... version="24.1.2083" ..........

the second number, 0, 1, 2, 3, ..... is A, B, C, D, ......

and so build is 24B2083
