Honestly, I should shut up now and walk away, but I cannot. The only real problem I see with what you are saying here is that I will have to use windows 8. Now if YOU tell me I can use the HP Z820 with 24 cores and have a lot more ram, and put Mavericks on it you might have me sold.
We use those Z820s with Win 7.1 at my work. Windows 8 is the biggest joke since Vista! Nobody in any 9-5 business is booting Win 8.
But to be fair, the Z820 is almost 10 times bugger than the mini-pro.

That's Apple's call, and Apple's loss. HP won't care if you run Apple OSX on your Z820.

And it can be done but there is no support so it is problematic at best. Shame really because that could have saved me a couple of grand. At the same time not long ago The mac pro was a lot cheaper then an HP or a Dell in the same class. For some reason now that has changed. I hate that

Hopefully we'll be hearing something new about the Mac Pro soon. Perhaps on September 10th? Apple usually focuses on iPods and iOS devices, but who knows.

I still can't believe some people use benchmarks to judge a machine. Not once have I ever found a machine to match benchmarks in real world usage.

The video showing Mari running on the new Mac Pro was exactly what I needed to see.

Look at the details...

People! click on the test results link and you will find that the test was performed in the 32- bit tryout mode! If you have ever used geekbench tou would know that 32-bit tryout scores are lower than the actual 64-bit scores that the other mac pro's had.
