You mean why not buy 17 instead of 16e? if so, the difference here is €300...
Yes but the 16 is also still available as a new phone from third-party retailers. And it’s currently almost as cheap as the 16e.
I'd miss my wide angle camera. I came from an SE 2 (and SE, then 5s and 4s before that) to a refurbished 13 mini and really appreciate the wide angle lens now. Not sure I'd want to go back to a single lens. This would make it my next phone if my 13 mini bites the dust in the next year or so, which I actually don't anticipate.
I was planning on purchasing this. I prefer small phones that easily fit in my pocket, like the 16e and the SE's before.
But, the looks of iOS 26 are so distasteful to me that the slight improvements in the hardware are not a good trade-off. So, no new iPhone here until this one dies and cannot be repaired. Everybody has their preferences, right? So, I appreciate Apple making the decision for me and saving me several hundred bucks for something I don't really need.
I think that it was St. Steve who compared Apple to BMW, and the analogy still holds. iPhone is a premium brand that selects it owners.Good policy. Same for my 2016 SE, although nearly every app has died off now. I even had to add the new Sectigo CA chains manually a few weeks ago (yes you can update your root CA store).
Apple needs to know that an iPhone with a flat back is non-negotiable. Don’t whine and complain that it can’t be done. I hope John Ternus understands this. The marketing people do, because they can’t have a single scene with the phone face-up in a product-placement capacity. This should be John’s Number One priority.
I hear this so very often from everyday people. They are truly unhappy with their phones. They complain about the sizes, or that they “had to get” the bigger one for the camera (yes, this was an intentional move by apple, I know). The middle-of-the-road people, for whom the base model, or the SE/e, is plenty sufficient, feel coerced into getting the higher tier. Yes, it’s marketing at its finest, and people fall for it, but they aren’t happy about it. That’s not how product offerings and marketing should work. People should feel pleased and happy with their choices, not resentful. Apple lost this after the iPhone 6 and 6S.
Sigh… Ternus has a lot of work ahead of him…
The 16e and Air have nearly identical mass and a very similar camera. If I was in the market for a lightweight iPhone, I’d go 16e.I have the 16e. I can't decide if I want to upgrade to the 17e, or go for the Iphone Air.
Honestly, why would ANYBODY opt for this phone? That's a lot of cut corners for $100.
