This is interesting, for those of us who are into PKM (Personal Knowledge Management) this is a good step towards being able to use Apple Notes as a simpler alternative to some of the more hardcore PKM solutions such as Obsidian.

Seriously I have been thinking about this lately. I could just keep folders with text files. I could go all in on Apple Notes and just trust Apple completely and never leave the platform.

I looked at DevonThink but I really can't see a difference between just using files and folders vs an actual database.

I tried to use Drafts but I started to realize I was just using it exactly like Notes. Between iCloud Drive, what used to be called iWork, and the Notes app, why do I need anything else? That's supposed to be one of the promises of the Mac after all, good software out of the box.

So what do you like currently as a middle ground, simpler alternative? You seem to imply Apple Notes isn't quite there yet.

I just had a closer look and Notes has an import to notes option which will let me import entire folders, structure and all. What I don't see is any export function other than for individual notes. This is one reason I am reluctant to use anything that uses a database and not standard files I could get at with anything. I don't like the idea of being locked in. Which I suppose is ironic since I'm all in on Apple platforms for my personal use.

Are there any changes to the Notes tables? If it had support for basic arithmetic it would make my life so much easier

Seems like a little too much overlap with Numbers. I don't want it to get too bloated like Evernote.

I just tried Apple Notes out on my main iPad, and this new linking functionality is pretty nice. There is no backlink, or at least I can seem to find how backlinks would work. they are headed down the right path but it feels like it’ll be another year before we see backlinks.

Somewhat related rant: As cloud software, why does it feel like getting these waterfall-era annual enhancements is a bit outdated? I’m not expecting Apple to be frenetic like the Obsidian team were about two years ago, but still can we get quarterly releases?

End rant

I just wish Pages or whatever it is called now could utilize a three panel structure, maybe it can and I am missing something, but is there any reason why it can't copy Scrivener and offer three panels, for example, when writing a story, the left panel has Chapter 1 etc., the middle panel has all of your notes for Chapter 1, and your right panel is your final draft version of Chapter 1, can it do this, if not, any free alternatives that perform this task that would make writing on any project easier.

Is it possible to create links in Notes to jump to a place within that same note? If so, how? Thanks.
