$10 foam mats just won’t do.

“You’re posing wrong!”
To be fair, as some one who have used a bunch of different yoga mats, those that cost $10 is often not worth if if you are active and into it. They break down to fast, not as good stadning on when sweating an more.
OK I’m a fatty and don’t know but why the hell is a yoga mat $80? Shouldn’t something like this be like $20?
You get what you pay for, as with everything else. A Cheap Yoga mat is not really good, quality and material varies greatly with price and then the is the whole extra cost of green production
When you see that exact same cork block is selling for £22 on the UK apple store, but only £14 on a yoga website, I think it's because Apple cares for our health, and not at all because of the huge markup!! :)

I would in most cases only buy apple products from apple. For everything else I would go to the original manufacture if possible.

To all those who will be that's a lot for a yoga mat, yes it is. But they are great mats which are of high quality and great material, they will last a long time. They are also made with some thought on the environment.

If you are new to yoga (or anything where you need a mat), get a chapter model if you are not sure how much or how long you will use it. and if it sticks, save up for a great mat as it will be dear to you many years to come.

I like it. There are tons of people that will scoop up this overpriced junk. Great margins. Bring on the Peloton killer.

By now it is guaranteed that Apple can sell any item from a "$1 store" for a sweet 1000% profit and higher. It is a $1 mat, ffs!

Geez, I'd pay $550 for a set of headphones before I'd pay $120 for a yoga mat...
Yeah that’s a lot. Maybe it’s worth it to people who really know yoga. But I got a 6mm Gaiam yoga mat from Amazon for $30 and it’s got a pretty design on it, too. At that price I was able to buy several of them so I could exercise with my family.

Guessing this is the same equipment used in the yoga sessions on Fitness+. Makes it an easy sell for those who are really into this. Very common tactic in fitness videos.

Ugh I don't like where this is headed. Why is Apple getting into selling this type of stuff?
Apple has been selling fitness equipment for years. They have connected jump ropes, kettlebells, rollers, bike helmets and other stuff. Some of it is exclusive to the Apple store, most of it is not. The gear is usually accessories for iPhone/iPad/AppleTV/Apple Watch apps.

im sure i can find a yoga mat on amazon for like 10 bucks.... good grief...
I am sure you can also find a phone on Amazon for $20, should Apple stop selling the iPhone? There is a range of products in the space with various different features including durability, thickness, material (or lack of certain materials). I paid $30 for my first yoga set (block, mat and strap) from Gaim at Target and after I had been doing it for 6 months, upgraded to a nicer mat that cost $60. It was worth it to me. If I did yoga outside on concrete instead of on padded carpet, I might get an even nicer one.

Why is it so hard for people to accept that different people care about different things. If this is not a product for you, move along.

These have been "smart" accessories that connect to their devices. They've not sold just stand alone fitness accessories that don't have technology in them so there is a big difference there.

No real difference. These are accessories for Fitness+, Apple has always sold things that are connected to its products.

you have to believe that Fitness+ is just the start. i'm not sure that Apple will get into the fitness equipment business directly but I sure bet I could see them make a proprietary API that links to Apple approved (and licensed!) 3rd party equipment like a stationary bike that reports Power/Wattage/Cadence or a treadmill that reports Distance/Speed etc. and all for improved data gathering, accuracy of tracking, and even integration of the device itself (Fitness+ controlling resistance and speed dynamically for example.) Apple seems to update stuff like this on a yearly candace so I think the next big jump will be in fall 2021 with WatchOS 8.

Is anyone forcing anyone to buy anything from Apple? It’s irrelevant how much they charge in a free and open market. Why all the hate? If you don’t like the prices, don’t buy from them. Simple.

i try to have it both ways. ultimately yes, everyone can choose to buy from outside apple but the reality is many people enjoy the ecosystem and the products, and they hope that the price remains reachable enough that the majority can enjoy that ecosystem without being forced out, in particular since apple seems to be doing pretty well.

as for fitness+ i feel its one of the more reasonable priced additions to the apple ecosystem as of late, significantly undercutting similar services and being nearly free when bundled with other apple services with Apple One. i have no problem with the cost of fitness+ and if apple chooses to sell overpriced yoga mats and the like that easily and obviously can be bought elsewhere for much less that's no big deal.

It is simply that Apple is selling them at list price. REI, a cooperative not known for huge markup, has it for the exact same price. Target also has it at that price. Apple is not a discount store and probably is not the best place to purchase discount gear.
Yogamatters.com is not a discount store either. See here...

https://www.yogamatters.com/products/manduka-lean-cork-block

This is where I get all my yoga equipment, including high quality mat, blocks, belts and other kit.

What’s next? Apple buying lululemon? 🤔

... hey, that’s not a terrible idea. The company culture fits. I can see a lot of synergy between the 2 brands if they had the same parent company.

that is more space than the average apartment in Munich, Germany :D

120 dollars for a yoga mat? that is almost what I paid for a 1 year subscription incl. unlimited drinks and guided work out courses back when gyms were open :D crazy

I got one of those black Manduka Pro mats 10 years ago and it's still in the same shape and my yoga mat to this day. Totally worth the $80-90 I paid.

I can't wait for Apple's Tatra+ app coming soon on iOS! 😂 Seriously though, glad to see Apple promoting eco-friendly fitness accessories! 🧘‍♂️ 🙏
