I wouldn't say a mobile phone is classified as 'essential'... I mean its not like food,

Essentials would be basic necessaries items as per the government. but should be interesting to see what their verdict is on this.

It's better to just say "It might be ready" That way, you cover all bases.

Everyone freaks over the notch. ARRGGHHH The notch. THE NOTCH!

The notch means the home button is gone, and there's that much more screen. I can unlock my phone without having to fiddle with that nonsense.

Home button or notch? Notch me baby. Notch me....

When most people don't have landlines, a mobile phone IS essential. The latest and greatest is not.

No notch is the deal for me. I have had every iPhone. Have all of the Apple ecosystem, but a notch ends that in 2020! At most, it should have a camera hole or two like the S10 did 18 months prior to the 2020 iPhone release. The Note 10+, S20, and OnePlus phones all prove there are far superior solutions.

Some people say they just stop seeing the notch or they ask what notch when I say I am sick of it. Since iPhone X, which I sold after a few months, then XS Max and now IPhone 11, I am so sick of the notch. I want OLED, and great cameras. I want fast charging and top-end specs. And I don’t care if it’s FaceID, TouchID, or it somehow senses my presence via voice or etc.

I just want the damn notch eliminated at all costs. I don’t understand how people can say the iPhone display is so beautiful. It’s a disaster. And the user interface isn’t intuitive at all. I would be happy if Scott Forstall was back in charge of software or even all of Apple like he was supposed to be before Cook forced him out. And the reason why was he was abrasive if you ask people... just like Steve Jobs, he had strong opinions to make better products that were more intuitive. Tim Cook forex him and bashed him, because Scott was supposed to be the CEO by now and Tim Cook likes his $140m in stock grants annually. It would be so appropriate if Cook got canned and the board brought back Steve Jobs two protégés - Scott Forestall and Jony Ive! Two people that design with passion and fight against each other to create something magical. Something that just works. They would be more worried about the design and functionality than their damn stock grants!!!!

(Edit: And I would prefer a notch-free display over 5G!!! In 2020!!!!!)

Rant over. Make Apple Great Again.

Back when I had my iPhone 7 Plus I was also strongly in the "I hate the notch" territory.

Then I got an 11 Pro Max, because I figured, it was time to finally move on and the notch was here to stay. I think it bothered me for maybe an hour at most. I don't even notice it anymore, and having status information (in the "ears" of the notch) not waste useful screen area is a great thing. For example I love how I can have tethering active without my screen being pushed down.

Just saying, this isn't a hill worth dying on.

I would be in the market for a 12 Pro with 5G. if it launches before November. If it's after the year is up, I'll likely just hold onto my XS for the 13.
Makes me wonder if Apple skips a year as I’d do the same.

I would speculate there is big demand right now for a new powerful iPhone because the COVID-19 pandemic is forcing so many people to do social distancing, working from home, etc. The issue is affordability.

Automakers are giving 6 month payment deferrals. If Apple launches a product within the COVID-19 pandemic they could offer payment deferrals.

I think people are still downplaying the severity of the current situation.......as there is no vaccine then people will need to stay home and minimize contact. Even if we stay at home 30 days, as long as there are still infection then the virus will continue to propagate as long as people go out, it will still be around. Might slow down as we get closer to summer time, but might pick up in the fall.....

Vaccine / treatment is the only hope of getting back to normal......so based on that I seriously doubt people will be rushing out to buy an iterative version of an iPhone

So long as I still have my job, I will be ordering one. I am anxious to replace my 6S, and my favorite iPhone design ever is the 5/5S design, so a return to a similar design language and the age of my current phone I'll be getting one. But if the world hasn't fully opened up yet by then I'll just order it for delivery. I agree with the wait for the vaccine though, things are going to be different until enough people have been vaccinated against it. I will miss the headphone jack though and Touch ID though (unless they get touch ID working). I'm using my headphone jack right now actually. But my phone is getting old enough that the slowness and horrible battery life is starting to annoy me more.

I never thought I would say this, but I will never buy another Apple product until they stop manufacturing in China or demand a democratic gov't in China. No more will China get my money if I can help it. This is a disgrace.

You're going to have a real hard time finding a phone to purchase... I don't know of a single one made elsewhere.

Bring the "Pro" features down to the iPhone 12 and forgo the iPhone 12 Pro for a year. Keep the aluminum frame and LCD display, the phone will sell. This is a year that Apple could probably get away with just launching a mid-range.

Focus on the next mid-cycle SE refresh. iPhone 9 honestly doesn't make much sense. It sounds old, with content being designed in wider aspect ratios and having dropped touchID for quite some time.

Last couple of replies:
  1. no notch no sale
  2. lower the price, econ 101, not greed 101
  3. produce a pro-feature mid-range phone in the iphone 12 with aluminum frame and lcd and forget the iphone 9, which is old content in wider aspect ratios.
So combining these suggestions:
- iphone 12, with high end features and no notch, with aluminum frame and lcd, selling for midrange phone price.

I would probably think apple thanks you for the suggestions, and have the game plan already developed and it's none of the above.

Because people are spending more time at home and less time out and about, there's less need for pocket-sized portable devices. OTOH, laptop sales are probably going to be up somewhat..

At home there is competition to use the iPad or laptop or desktop computer.

Texting at home is easier on a smartphone.

FaceTime at home is easier on a smartphone.

The new iPhone has a larger screen. A 6.7" screen is better at home.

Everyone in a family has personal music tastes. Listening to music on smartphone is easier.

People go for walks to buy food. New phones have safer contactless Apple Pay.

If the new iPhones are launching in September it will be post-COVID-19. If people are still reluctant to get a new iPhone in September there could be a payment deferral.
