Pretty cool to see this come to iOS.
Must have required the advanced ML architecture of recent Apple SoC to incorporate it. I had no idea Nokia phones of early 2000s were so powerful.

it still isn’t possible to edit a phone number after pasting it, to add a country code before dialing.

It's the carriers. If Apple is the carrier, the call quality will be excellent.
So, it still doesn't display the call history as you type a number...
or to just say, "hey siri, call ben" 🤷♂️
T9 texting? Next someone will find out that iPad OS 18 actually supports CD-ROMs too. 🤪
I was thinking similar. What a moment in time thing. I used to be fluent in T9. But having not used it in probably fifteen years at least, I wonder if I could still do it. The memories are probably still there.
I would love for macOS to have more optical support, like full support for blu-ray. But that will never happen now that every platform owner is a content owner and vice versa.
Yes, the fact that iPhone hasn't had this is absolutely insane. I used android for 10 years, now iPhone for just over 1 year and this has been one of the big WTFs I've had since switching.
Why would touchscreen eliminate such a feature? This is a basic feature that every single phone should have, it makes using the phone as phone easier.

My wife has been using android for a decade and she didn't know about T9 dialing.
Please god no. If Apple is the carrier, it will be using its own chip for base station, proprietary band that no other phone uses, reception will be terrible outside big cities and only work with most recent iPhone

I'd rather use a rotary dial than ask Siri.

When they were first going to introduce the iPhone I was hoping the were going to have a click wheel like the iPod some we could dial numbers that way like old rotary phone (yes I know we have apps to do that)
