Apple doesn't seem to have a problem with Google as they have been using them as the default search engine for years.
If Google wasn’t the default search engine, imo lots of people would ditch safari for Chrome or immediately make Google the default. Apple knows this so they might as well make money off of it

I learned about DuckDuckGo ages ago.
Google search may work a little better, but DDG doesn’t spy on you.

I think it's really more about the optics. If Apple really wants to promote itself as a "privacy advocate" they could've taken a stand and chosen not to make Google search the default instead of doing the opposite for money. They come across essentially no better than Google, FB, etc. when it comes to profiting handsomely from user data.
 
For last two years my visit to facebook are less and less. Reason - advertisements. The same on Instagram. Advertisements are more than posts from my friends. So, there is nothing to keep me in on these platforms. Boring...
