Yeah no kidding. Funny how that word always seems to eventually creep into the conversation.

Funny, I think it's more interesting there are people who declare others to be degenerates undeserving of attention for their particular disease being shocked at the term 'bigot', as if *that's* the "horror" in all this.

LOL! That's the funniest thing I've read all day!

If that is what helps you sleep better at night, then it is yours to keep.

It has nothing to do with how well I sleep. It has to do with the process of critical thinking based on actual and verifiable information, as opposed to hyperbole and conjecture.

Funny, this is one of the reasons I hate apple. Even though I own lots of Apple stock, and lots of apple products including 2 ipads, have owned 8 iphones, 4 ipods, appletv, and will be getting a macbook pro soon. I will never, and I mean NEVER purchase a 'red' product knowingly.

I get that AIDS charities are the politically correct thing to donate to.

But I would much rather it be put towards cancer research. For the following reasons:

-Cancer impacts almost everyone in some way, shape, or form. Whether you yourself have it, get it, know someone who has it or will get it. Aids is very rare in the scheme of things. And mostly happens to people who are participating in a risky lifestyle. Sexual orientation totally out of the conversation. Either it is through unprotected sex, sharing needles, transmission to unborn babies is of course the one 100% exception to that rule.

-People of all ages and risk levels are affected. AIDS you know how to avoid. But many people make bad decisions and still get it. Cancer strikes even people who take all the precautions like sunscreen, avoiding contact with chemicals, etc....

-Making large strides towards a cure for cancer would possibly apply to all forms of cancer, of which there are many. Not just going towards research and primarily to drugs to treat those who have it but cant afford the pills. Regardless of how they got it and if they were reckless or took precautions.

And heck, cancer is even what killed Steve Jobs for goodness sake.

You are 100% right on this issue. AIDS is essentially totally preventable and cancer is not. There is a huge difference right there. I can basically gaurantee you WONT get AIDS if you don't share heroin needles, maintain a monogamous relationship with a clean person, and avoid risky sexual activities. There. Done. Yeah, yeah, those one a trillion cases where you get it through a blood transfusion or whatever. Tough break but funding for diseases should be decided on how many people are affected and how the disease gets contracted.

Anyone claiming racism, bigotry or whatever other "card" they want to play are just playing the "card" and should know that logic wins out here.

AIDS should get about 1/10000000 of the funding that cancer gets. Period.

There are your facts right there buddy. Have a nice day.

Are you saying it is your belief that NO communicable diseases should receive funding for research and development of a cure? Or just the ones you judge to be worthy of a cure?

There should have been no effort to research a cure for Polio, Smallpox, Tuberculoses, Leprosy, Rubella, Ebola etc? Because as long as you avoid contact with other people you won't get infected, right? It's all about lifestyle, right?

Do you also think penicillin was a total waste of time and money?

Sorry, but your guarantee isn't worth jack ****. Whenever people are involved, there's the risk of human error. People can and do contract AIDS through no fault of their own. It happens.

The same stigma surrounded Hepatitis C, ie. only intravenous drug users contracted it from shared syringes. As it turned out, again, many many people were infected through no fault of their own, via blood transfusions, passed from mother to child etc.

To all those saying that AIDS attracts a disproportionately high level of funding, I have a question I'm dying to ask. How would you feel if yourself or a loved one contracted it?

The world really isn't as black or white as some of you seem to think.
