I just found out Oppo topped Huawei. Last year, Huawei was #1. Two years ago, Samsung and Xiaomi were tops. Xiaomi was dubbed the Apple of China at one point. A year before that, Lenovo was tops. You see where am I getting at? None one OEM stays #1 for very long in China. It can change every few months. For all we know after watching Captain America: Civil War, Vivo could be next in line to be the #1.

^ Look how fast Oppo accelerated at #1 from two years ago. Look how fast Samsung and Xiaomi fell from since. Volatile market. Oppo is stalling Huawei from catching Apple at #2 globally within a few years.

Considering how selfie-obsessed Chinese are, it's no wonder R9 is the best selling phone. All you have to say is 'it has the best camera to take selfies' and they'll buy it. This is kind of my point as well as yours: these is pretty much zero brand loyalty in China. Chinese will pretty much buy whatever they 'feel' is right. It's all about marketing.

The vast majority of Chinese who use iMacs or MacBooks don't even use macOS. They install Windows on it. It's the freakin' stupidest thing I see here, so many Apple computers with Windows on it.

Combine this news with recent "smash Apple" incident, I doubt Apple will be able to create a new iPhone sale boom in china again.

Dragging iPhone price down would not be what Apple likes and if so, then citizens in other countries may seek to buy iPhone in china because their price is cheaper. Apple Music in china is a good example.

There is no doubt that many so called knock-offs are just from parts smuggled out of official Apple suppliers or at least supplier sanctioned. Whether Apple likes it or not, Apple will need to invest in automation and build the devices themselves. This is not going to get better but worse. And give away the store to China.

Why are so many people so quick to blame this on nefarious actions? The fact of the matter is the technology to build a phone is not exactly a state secret and China has the most extensive manufacturing expertise in the world. It's called competition, folks. The only thing that attracts people to Apple is the brand and ecosystem. But when stronger competitors come online, the brand and ecosystem can only do so much to stem the tide.

It's not nefarious, just the most obvious and likely proposition. Anyone involved in manufacturing knows that's the most likely cause or source. Occams Razor and common sense.
