Interesting the move makes national news but nothing here? Too busy writing ‘news‘ articles on sales containing affiliate links?

Discussing MacRumors editorial decisions is fine in this thread, but please limit the discussion to that topic and let's not get into discussing the politics surrounding the reported decision by Apple to remove the apps. That discussion belongs in the Political News forum in the event such a story is published by MacRumors.

Without a link, it's difficult to know what you're talking about. There are lots of bible and Quran apps in the App Store.

According to the BBC and the link here, the apps where removed for breaching the law. Once the developers make their applications compliant with the law I am sure they will do so. The bible one already said they weren't going to bother to get a license so that'll just remain out of the App Store in China.

Also more on topic, it is widely reported. It isn't a tech thing so doesn't really need reported on every tech site too.Another popular religious app, Olive Tree's Bible app, was also taken down this week in China. The company told the BBC they had removed the app themselves. "Olive Tree Bible Software was informed during the App Store review process that we are required to provide a permit demonstrating our authorization to distribute an app with book or magazine content in mainland China," said a spokesperson.

My opinion on MR's editorial decision, if there was one: this story was covered by numerous news organizations worldwide, including the Associated Press and the BBC. Further, the story is primarily about politics and religion. As we know, those are two highly restricted topics on MR and, to me, peripheral to MR's core content focus. So, I don't think MR did a disservice to its users or was negligent by not publishing the story.

----------
Edited to add: I come to MR to read about Apple's products and to participate in discussions of shared areas of interest with other Apple users. If I want to see adversarial debates about political, religious, or social topics, there are a lot of other online places, with better tailored moderation and ToS policies, to go to.

It‘s a fair opposite opinion of which I disagree. Other business decisions with political, religious, equal human rights (as well as LGBT) implications have been reported. I am of the belief this should have been as well. Thanks.

It would be news if Apple decided to pull their products out of China.
It would also be news if Apple moved their headquarters to Beijing -- maybe not here though because it would certainly have a political element. Not sure where the line gets drawn. It probably has to do with how many people a story with a political element might offend.

It’s an Apple business decision thing with far reaching implications which is news yet being unreported here. Hence this thread suggesting it shouldn’t have been ignored.
It’s not any more important than if some other book or magazine didn’t have the correct permit. And it isn’t A Apple business decision, they just followed a legal request to remove the app until a the correct permit is provided.

Indeed it is a business decision. Further explanation would encroach on the political & religious topics where the discussion is best saved for that article if ever reported on.

So this is a matter of Chinese law, and is limited to China. I live outside of China and I'm having no problem finding these apps, so I don't see how this is newsworthy when apps get removed for legal reasons all the time.

Let's just say that this opinion is so wrong on many levels and I dissent wholeheartedly and sincerely hope that as a good person, which I dare to presume you are, you would reconsider your view. It is newsworthy to say the least however the substance of this topic is strictly verboten on MR so I will refrain from further comment.

I'm open to reconsidering, but if you're not going to say what to reconsider, why reply at all...
