Last year? It's on sale at this very moment. I was surprised they even still have those dinosaurs around.

Why would this be a response to the Surface Book 2? Apple regularly lists and de-lists these older models in the refurbished section.

The current MacBook Pro's are completely superior to the Surface Book 2..

1)
They run macOS.
2) They're standard laptops, which suit 90% of the market, check the sales stats on 2-in-1s.
3) Twice the power? It would take that on Windows to match half the speed of a Mac.
4) Better battery life? Try using it without the bottom half and see how far you get. Especially when using the GPU.. And nobody else's battery claims ever seem to be as close to real world performance as Apple's testing, so Microsoft gets no special credit until we see evidence down the line.

And if the first Surface Book was such a 'great success', then why were they selling them for £300 off each price point - BEFORE the second gen announcement. Screams low sales and consumer interest to me..

"Runs MacOS" = most important point here.

They can do all they want in the specs department but at the end of the day it'll ship with Windows 10. Remember that old saying about polishing turds...

Actually that’s not unusual for manufacturers that don’t use Apple’s ‘planned economy’ pricing structure - components become cheaper over time and they pass the savings on to the consumer rather than pocketing it... at any rate, check John Lewis, they have had the current MBPs for £50-£150 off for months too.

There's a difference between John Lewis running a promotion, and the actual manufacturer doing it. E.g. Apple cutting the prices on their site.

Running a promotion? These promotions have been running since the 2017 models were introduced at the very least...

I think the Surface Book design is really well thought out except for one thing (explained later). I have always wondered if the Surface Books suffered from keyboard imprints on the screen after a while because it looks like (by the design) that the keyboard is not resting on the screen.

I’ve also always wondered why Apple hasn’t stolen what Lenovo does on their laptops but use it in a different way. On some 2-1 laptops Lenovo regressed the keys on the keyboard when you flip the keyboard 270 degrees and have the keyboard upside down as the stand. Why Apple hasn’t stolen this concept and INSTEAD regress the keys WHEN YOU CLOSE YOUR LID on your MacBook’s to prevent key marks on your screen in beyond me.

The horrible thing about the SB is that basically the “tablet” only function is a highly compromised feature (less battery life, no GPU) and it seems counterintuitive to have to open the laptop to press the release button to get the tablet part separated. If I take my SB out of my bag but only want to use the tablet, I should be able to easily release it without opening it.

All in all ... I think the Surface Book is good competition for Apple products. The Apple die hards will never consider buying one because they still think their complaints about Windows 95 is valid today. I would consider buying one if I had the money and tested it out in Best Buy or wherever but probably wouldn’t because the I would want the tablet function to be a fully functional tablet experience with full battery life.

I’ve always wanted to buy a Surface Pro to replace my IPad with but never did because I want a Smart Cover equivalent instead of a keyboard cover.

Wow I did not even know Apple still makes these old computers.

It's amazing too, because they're still so far ahead of most Windows machines, despite having a unibody design pioneered by Apple almost 10 years ago in 2008!

People already made Surface Book running Mac OS. I hope the Book 2 can do the same.

Anyone here got those MacBook pros.

What was it like back than.

I remember when Surface RT came. I thought about buying it. Interesting system. Perhaps I will buy a Surface product.

weren't they selling 2012 MBP up until recently because enterprise customers wanted a macbook they can upgrade?

Upgrading doesn't usually makes much sense to enterprise... My guess would be that the "older" MBP was there to provide a budget option, that was first and foremost targeted towards education customers.

They sold because they had a bunch of standard ports that didn't require dongles and were easily repairable.
