The artificial wall between the iPad and the Mac just keeps getting more and more absurd...... I just downloaded the new iPadOS and lo and behold it makes my M1 iPad essentially work just like my Mac complete with windows, context menus, open/close/expand buttons...the works! And the Files app is basically iPads "finder"...... Thanks Apple!

Now with the advent of the touch screen MacBook the circle is complete..........

But wait....... Mac apps STILL don't work on M series iPads AND most key iPad apps can't be run on a Mac....... (and we will soon have an "A" series MacBook!)

The artificial wall continues........... even when all the "reasons" for it continue to melt away.......

While I expect the new MBP could be slightly thinner around the screen area, I can't imagine that it would be dramatically thinner as that would make the MBA less appealing, since thinness and lightness is the major selling point of the MBA.

Wish this wasn’t so far away. I’m in need of an update and might have to settle for the rumored m5 refresh instead in a few months.

based on what i've seen with ipados, trying to equally accomodate touch and cursor ux looks like it will lead to a compromised version of one or both.

Except that the iPad cannot run the same Apps that Mac can because of Apple's nanny rules for its App Stores.

If they are apparently not releasing the M5 models until early 2026, then I can't imagine they would release the M6 model in the same year. 2027 seems more likely then for these.

The M4 MBP is plenty fast, no need to for M5 upgrade yet. Let my M4 bask in glory a little longer 😂😂

still using the M3 MBP and have not felt the strong urge to upgrade. it's a really odd feeling compared to clicking "buy" every time the refreshed Intels were announced.

I would prefer a ipad case that had a built in battery for charging and added ports to the iPad and a SD card reader.

I've had a touchscreen laptop for 10 years and barely use it. Most days I forget it's there.

Why move my entire arm 6 inches up, touch the screen and six inches back down when I can just move my mouse less than 1cm and click?

Touchscreens are only useful for gooning in bed.

They've had the same design for the MBP since the M1 launched. Why wouldn't the M5 be the right time for a redesign? Tahoe seems to imply they're shuffling things up a bit.

Looking forward to a thinner, lighter redesign. Not sure I want a touchscreen MBP. My screen is smudged enough as is.

Bring on the M5 for me. I don't need OLED, I don't want a thin MacBook with crappy battery life and speakers and I definitely don't want a touch screen on my MacBook.

A notebook with touchscreen is nonsense and ergonomically a nightmare.
You don't have to unify by force different device classes. A good printer is a good printer. A good scanner is a good scanner. For god's sake!

A touchscreen on a Mac doesn’t harm it. You can choose not to use it. I don’t think we’ll actually see it, but the there’s no real reason to be opposed to it.

Apple hasn’t been “unifying by force”. They’ve largely done the opposite by putting up artificial barriers between Mac OS and iPadOS.

It makes it more expensive and might have detrimental effects on display performance and longevity.

And I didn’t say they have done that, but that this design choice would go into that direction.

Maybe now it's worth to upgrade my MBP M1 Max. Solid laptop and still a workhorse to this day. The M6 looks solid.
