Remember . . . . this was the power adapter that Apple referred to as “properly designed” and offered a special take-back program for lesser “third-party” equipment. 2013, those were the days my friend . . . .

Why does this thing still exist at all?
When traveling light and relying on overnight charging, small size trumps all. Although the US one pictured here is kind of blocky. The EU one is more slick.

This is one of the few chargers that will properly charge my slew of iPod classics… but it is vastly outdated otherwise!

Slow charging and it goes not over-heat the iPhone. To this date, I still use it daily on my iPhone 13 Pro Max.
Agreed, charging circuits have evolved and all but slow is ideal for an overnight charge. When my wife and I upgraded from our 7/8 plus models we didn't replace the charger. These still work great, and better yet they didn't end up tossed in an overflowing junk drawer or in a landfill.

I only use them for my Watch Series 6 charging pucks, including in a small pouch of chargers and cables that I carry when I travel. Otherwise, I have a bunch of 12w USB-A charger blocks in pretty much every room of my house, which I am gradually replacing with 20w USB-C blocks.

Doesn't matter how slow it is if you charge overnight. It's always going to be full when you wake up in the morning.
Fair point. I have a pretty unpredictable sleep schedule, and I also like to go to sleep listening to music, which makes charging it hard. I have a MagSafe wireless charger I should probably put next to the bed.

Another opportunity to educate someone! Your fast charger is like holding a sponge up against a fire hydrant, where your phone is the sponge. The phone does not overcharge, but apple has absolutely responded to folks request for faster charging speeds at the cost of battery longevity. It is simply much better to use a lower power charger overnight, if you can spare the time it takes. If you don't care about battery replacements, then of course your calculus is different and more power to ya!
See my follow-up post. The impact of fast charging on the Battery is minimal, its more about your charging habits. You are out here claiming fast charging damages the battery when its only somewhere around 15 Watt. There are 125 Watt mobile chargers out there. Go educate them and tell em how they should all use 5 watt chargers for their phone.

These claims about fast charging in this thread are laughable. If you have Apple Care Plus slow charging makes absolutely no sense since its just straight up a waste of time.

I use 5W MagSafe charger all day while sitting at my computer at work. I don't usually charge at night (unless I'm really low on battery), so this works for me just fine.

Good for you. Yet you are one of the very few, this charger has become obsolete years ago.
I stopped using one of these chargers years ago, but I know plenty of people who still use them. It seems to be the one people have laying around or just readily available.

Hell, I still have a desk drawer full of these ones along with the fatter 10W and 12W bricks. I have two of the new USB-C 18W plugs, which I don’t use at all either.

Honestly replaced the EU version if these with USB-C ones for me and my girlfriend this summer. Still use one for charging the Apple Watch though. Also use them to charge non-Apple products like Bluetooth speakers that require USB-A.

I have so many of these lying around that when someone asks to borrow a charger, I give them one of those. That way if they forget to return it, I don't worry about it.

This is where I disagree with you on this matter. Letting your battery go below 20% and then charging it using a slow charger past 80% causes much more saturation to the battery, than keeping it in the range between 20% and 80% using a fast charger.
So you only allow yourself to use 60% of your battery capacity?

These 5W are the best, they are so handy. We were often trying to find more chargers back then and needed to avoid those cheap counterfeit ones that burn up. My oldest ones like many here say are still working to this day. :)
