Dead in the water if it's iOS only

There are other products and WILL be other products that can and will do the same that will work with any phone, Android and iOS

What would be the point in a control system for the home that will only work whilst you buy iPhones?

And for the countries around the world which have a tiny iOS market share, virtually no sales at all.

Apple can't be THAT stupid can they ?

That would be like trying to sell an Apple TV that you had to use an iPhone for a remote control and nothing else would work. It would be even more limited than it is now.

You might want to actually read the articles you comment on. Crazy thought, I know.

Definitely a disappointment. I have LIFX all around my house, and once the novelty wears off, having to launch an app to turn the lights on and off becomes a chore. 90% of the time we just use the light switches anyway (save for a standing lamp whose switch is in an awkward spot down on the floor).

Having a deeper integration (maybe through something like control centre, or make use of geofencing) would be much more useful.

and this is why the stock falls after WWDC every year.

Rumors promise a revolution, Apple delivers a slight evolution.

For a couple of years now I have had a motion activated security camera in the hallway of my house.

It is really convenient, except
I have it powered thru a bluetooth switched cord (z smart cord) that uses an iOS app
When I leave & come home I have to reconnect bt to the cord because it treats the cord as an audio device which mutes the phone until I disconnect from it.

Would be terrific if I could control it (or a different unit) without those pre/post steps.
Going to watch how this develops...

what it you don't want Wi-fi to control all these gizmos ?

The smart house just took a nose dive.

Not to mention, the user would be even more expected more to keep their phone charged, with a

"oh wait the light switch ain't working" "where's my charger", or " i'll have to eat by candle light until i get a new charger tomorrow at Apple"

a "smart home" is a gimmick. a cool gimmick. using the phone to open lights etc. is inconvenient. its cool because its new and stuff, but inconvenient. most people will use the switch, its just faster.

unless your home becomes controllable by your voice, it will be faster to just use switches.

the smartphone-solution would be nice to simulate being at home while you're away though. have the lights switch on and off regularly and burglars will think that someones at home.

The younger generation is only good here..

Voice won't work if you've lost your voice, or can't be clearly heard.

I agree, light switch is faster, and in most cases, would be, particularly when you have wi-fi issues/technical problems.

Although you have have more light bulbs to change more frequently, there are less things that can go round compared to a 'smart house', in in most cases, you'd be scratching your head wondering what's gone wrong .....

Good idea, and we've got 'smart house' here, not iPhone controlled, but i have never been in a smart house, and never will.

Cool technology, and interesting what you can do with it, but the more your have, the more companies it becomes for everyone even the older generation.

As of current, even my parents need to call me in to fix up the most basics of tasks, and this is a Windows PC..... Imaging in a smart house with iphone controlled, I'd be doing all the work.

And since there's be so much needing to do it via iphone, you'd just give uo, being too complicated, especially double story..

Aw man!!! Now Apple is going to know I want a Larger iPhone. Only took 2 years.
