I hope he will be jolly in his new position, and so say all of us. Which nobody can deny.

So, is Google doomed now that two people in their AI division have jumped ship?
or AI is a road to nowhere.

So why can’t Google produce a single decent piece of hardware? Or software for that matter?
A quick look at this very site that you are commenting on shows it is running:
  1. googletagmanager.com

  2. google-analytics.com

  3. googletagservices.com
Seems to me Google has produced three pieces of decent software that allows you to post your thoughts to the World...

For hardware, their Google Home and Chromecast seems to be doing pretty well. The notebooks seem be doing ok in schools.

For software, I guess all the ad analytics libraries, edu management, Google Office, Search, and Maps seem to be doing pretty well. You could arguably say Android OS as a whole is pretty successful

There are probably more, but maybe you think this way because their profits don’t match up with your perspective of Apple’s climb to the moon

I wonder if he will return to Google when he is done in a couple of years with what he has learned from Apple or is it vise versa?

these are merely web traffic analytic services. By no means, Google's offering is unique or necessary to post your thoughts to the world or macrumors...

Just saying.

Not really.

My first thoughts with Ian Goodfellow joining Apple with his specific expertise:
Speed & security improvements with FaceID (think MB/MBP using FaceID to unlock in the future with internet connection and rogue code to try to circumvent authorization for ApplePay. Moreso like deep fake of former/current presidents across the globe making speeches - could serious global damage; as featured on Bloomberg).

Nueral Chip increases use for things like rogue code in applications downloaded prior to Apple finding them - essentially increasing device security; acting like a mobile TP2 chip.

Searches, algorhythms etc will get a huge boost within about 12-24mths or so.

Wild thoughts: Anon! (Netflix)
Using AR glasses to identify current and potentially historical data on people, buildings, landmarks, businesses, etc. Also to remain private and anonymous (Anon) to others because ... Apple does not sell user data, nor use third parties to store it on Amazon servers in plain text and give excuses that it'll take years to solve and yet CEO to delete historical internet posts and jump on the bandwagon as he fears control and full ownership of his castle is getting close to ending. Yeah, bring it on.

You missed the obvious sarcasm.

Whenever Apple loses an employee it's the end of the world (look at the recent thread about an Apple chip architect leaving).

On a related note, Samsung just announced today they expect profits to be down a whopping 60% this quarter compared to last year. Meanwhile, last quarter Apple revenues were down only 5%, but profit was basically the same as the previous year and it's all doom & gloom.

“Google machine learning expert” is an oxymoron.

Don’t know what “oxymoron” means?

Google it!
