What a VERY short sighted article, because come September when they announce a 2000 folding phone, and price increase of around 300 across all the other devices.. you'll see those sales plummet. They will be taking the standard iPhone model up to the 1000 price band. 1200 to 1300 for an iPhone Air anyone?....

They are going to be feeding the Ai data centres in the countries they are being built in to compote with the American market. So I would not rely on them if I were to you to bring prices down.

Sure just like all the other price increases they 'have' applied were 'pure speculation' before hand.. you are very naive if you really think Apple won't be massively increasing iPhone pricing, they add 60% markups on their devices... it is Apple they do NOT reduce there profit margins..
I will be shocked if they launch the folding version at $2K. $2500 seems more likely.
I would be shocked if Apple ate the price increases with iphones. I think iphone prices are going to go up significantly with a price increase this year and possibly next year also. AS soon as that happens the Android makers will raise their prices too.
Don't be fooled. They wanted to raise prices with another $100. Instead they will increase it 'two-fold' with $200 and during a release cycle, cause most buyers already bought one, if kot are holding out for September.

The reality is iPhone demand is pretty inelastic, so we can expect increases to match Mac and iPad.
It's the reason why iPhones take 18-24 months to appear on the Apple refurb store while it takes 3 months for MacBook Air and Neo.

Doubling of current capacity won't occur until 2030+. Increases each year are 15-20%.
The problem is, hyperscaler demand is increasing 50-100% per year.
There is a remote possibility that Apple keeps the iPhone 18 at the same price as the 17, as regular iPhone shoppers tend to be more price sensitive than iPhone Pro shoppers. The could try to do what Nintendo did recently, and raise the price of accessories and other items more to keep iPhone pricing the same, but I don't think that would work here (there is only so much they could raise the prices for chargers, AirPods, smart covers, etc). Given that iPhone 17 already got a bump to 256 GB storage, I doubt they could do the same thing where they eliminate the lowest storage tier.

There have been rumors reported on this site that they are going to start stripping away features from the 18 as the way the keep prices the same. Therefore the 17 would be the better buy over the 18.

Pretty much an impossibility because iPhone demand is quite inelastic.
Consider that Apple increased the price of the Apple TV box by $70, a device which is heavily subsidized by subscriptions. So a non-subsidized device like iPhone 17/18 getting a pass? With far more DRAM and NAND in the BOM? Zero chance.
And it's not as if Apple's competition didn't already increase prices on their mainstream phones.

Yes, I saw those rumors, but dismissed them as in my opinion, it wouldn't make sense as they already have the 17e. If the 18 is nerfed in any way, it will just become to similar to the 18e. This would hurt sales in one way or another (depending pricing, why get an 18e if the 18 cost much more, or more likely, why get the 18 if the 18e costs much less). I think it's too hard to go back and take away features without being heavily criticized.
I agree that if they do end up doing that, the 17 will just be the better buy.
That's why I said it is a remote possibility in my opinion. I'm expecting pricing to go up, and consequently, sitting out this cycle until I feel there is better value in upgrading. I already feel a little jaded in getting the 16 Pro and now realizing it won't get all of the announced AI features.
Could this end up being of of the worst years of iPhone sales if they do increase the price and don't end up having any significant features over the 17?

Remember when Steve Jobs said he'd be happy if iPhone captured 1% of the mobile phone market? I wonder if anyone at Apple back then knew how drastically the iPhone would change not only the industry but communication in general.
Apple was in a unique situation to use this RAM shortage to their advantage. Should have maintained the prices - they are sitting on a mountain of cash and wouldn’t have hurt them. It could have been a great opportunity to get people to switch and locked into the ecosystem.
I believe he was referring to capturing 1% of the global mobile phone market in 2008 (iPhone's first full year) but expected things to grow from there.
And Apple's operating costs have also increased. Apple's 166,000 employees need decent raises. Their health insurance benefit costs have gone up. Ditto with Apple utilities and other operating costs.

I am not question that price increases will be very very likely, but I do think that Apple will not make them the same across the models, like $300 per phone model as you seemed to be suggesting. I think it'll be a more modest for the entry level and a higher one for the top of the line, but, again all speculation (price increases have been a topic for the past 5+ yers nd didn't really happen for iPhones) so we can revisit in September when we have an actual announcement.
Remember that iPhone makes 50+% of Apple's revenue, they'll be smart about it
I disagree with that, based on the fact they have increased pricing on very nearly every single product they make that isn't an iPhone, even the Apple TV and HomePod mini got price increases. It seems to me Apple is in no mood to swallow any off the cost increases or reduce it's profit margins.
We shall see.
