How does the average person go about buying stock in Apple? You can't just go to the iTunes store and add stock to your cart (although this would be awesome). Seems silly to sign up for something like Fidelity just to buy stock in 1 or 2 companies.

That would be silly. The average person needs to educate themselves on investing before even thinking about doing anything like buying stocks.

lol, its not a case of being a smart arse, its a case of pointing out what the guy said is flatout wrong, steve never left, no two ways about it, he said he did.

Yes, there are two ways about it.

1) Steve Jobs left as the CEO of Apple
2) Steve Jobs left Apple completely

He only said "he left". There could be two different interpretations.

Why assume he made the wrong one?

ooh perfect idea!

iStock!!!

Glad we bought this at $12/share in '98. And then again at $98.. and then again at $325

wow, your gutsy moves proved to be well. has or does apple release dividends regularly?

I didn't know they were ever at $12 a share, at 4 bills for a single stock, its well out of my reach!

Can you imagine the buying that would occur if they split right now and everyone got 2:1???

I bet prices would be back up to $400 by the end of the year.

Is there going to be an article every time the stock hits a new all-time high? Because it's going to happen several more times before the end of the year, with supposed next generation iPhone and holiday sales coming up.

I would like to voice my disgust in the fact that I was going to buy stock when it was $94, and didn't because I wasn't certain about the future of iStock.

I would like to ask anyone who would like to donate stock, to give it to me.

I would also like a hug / pat on the back.

:(

Oh how I wish I wasn't a starving college kid when AAPL hit the $15/20 mark. I could have bought 66 shares for a grand.. and it would be worth $27.5k now. I'll be over here drinking myself into a coma.

In case anyone's truly wondering, you can use an online discount broker. You are on your own, no advice or service is given to you, and everything is done in real time from a web browser.

So yeah, it's basically as easy as adding an item to your cart. If you lose though, you can't blame no one but yourself.

I pay 29$ per transaction, either it's buying or selling stocks, no matter the amount of stocks. That means the commission is relatively lower when you buy large a amount of stocks.

Just like you buy any other stock. You go to a stockbroker.

Though I am sure there are some people on ebay, craigslist etc that will sell you some stock.

or go here

Apparently, Steve doesn't need to be there anymore. Over his 15 year second tenure, he successfully transplanted his DNA into the company and its executive team. ;)

Go :apple:!

Kinda makes me want to learn more about stocks... especially after viewing "Limitless".

Set up one of those fantasy portfolios and follow the news regarding the stocks (and others) you selected. You'll see how and why stocks perform the way they do, and learn about the broader markets as well.

Yes people did, even if they were obviously wrong even at the time.

No, he hasn't left Apple, but he left as the CEO.

Don't play smartass, you know what he meant.

Is so good news. Now Steve is not CEO and Apple is so improved already. Able to do charity and now stock rises. Steve helped Apple in beginning but lately was holding back Apple. Now apple can be almighty.

It's probably all those people selling Netflix stock, they had to buy something, right?

Actually sell-offs at RIM and Netflix probably did contribute but I doubt it was too significant. A lot of people and institutions do try and keep the balance, Apple is a more stable tech stock. (More stable than average, you can put your keyboard away Mr. Smartass who is going to chime in that no stock is stable).

Investors were nervous about succession. Not anymore now that Tim Cook has been moved to CEO and Steve to Chairman. Hence, the stock rise.

That and the continued growth.

The jump in stock price might have something to do with invites going out soon maybe, one can hope!

Stocks don't move on possible invites to a new product event. Where do people get this stuff?

Fidelity, Scottrade, another online broker, etc...

Don't see how it seems silly. It seems silly to sign up for the iTunes Store to buy one or two movies, amirite?

I have almost exactly 10x as much Apple stock as Netflix stock...between just the two, I'm dead even for this week. :(

Sold at $410.10 :) :) :)

Will buy back in on the next major market panic to swipe 10% off AAPL.

I was very close to selling at 410 myself. But, I was also very close on Friday at 400. And this morning at 397, thinking I had made a mistake not selling on Friday.

What Fun. I have been watching all day and I can't make up my mind.
