People around here don't seem to know what the typical work of a CEO is...

Believe me, I've spent enough of my youth in business schools to learn what a CEO is. He/She is also meant to be a leader in ways Tim Cook is not.

Jobs was an exception. His work got split between several people.

His products were also exceptional. The same cannot be said for Tim's.

I always feel a *massive cringe* whenever I see Cook doing this sort of PR social media stuff. Embarrassing, particularly when opposite a visionary like Miyamoto.

He's a beancounter that epitomises the Peter principle, and under his helm, Apple has fallen so very far from the tree it sprouted from.

Okay then, who is this "exceptional" CEO ready to take Apple to new heights?

Good question. I think we need something like The Apprentice and get some rank outsiders to go for the job, but obviously not the muppets that actually go on the apprentice. I can't think of anyone currently who could lead them, we need someone new.

Elon Musk perhaps, but his hands are already full. Someone with such vision and personality. A Silicon Valley nerd who can breathe enthusiasm back into consumer electronics, the same way Elon makes space exploration exciting again following decades of NASA bureaucracy.

God forbid not an uppity starter-climber who simply wishes to raise Y combinator funds and sell out to Google within a year of operations, nor another MBA 'American Psycho' suit.

I'm no fan of Cook but I do like this photo. Cool to have Nintendo on board in the App store. That's a huge step forward. Remember those first iPhone and iPod Touch numbers Steve showed us about the best selling game device? At first I was thinking, Yeah right but he was right from the start. And now, with this Nintendo deal opening doors, this must be Apple's cherry on the App store cake.

Timmy, the worlds social butterfly . Apple could also learn from Nintendo what happens when you stagnate your hardware .

Hardware your company was built on.
Yeah he seems to spend more time traveling and making deals with country leaders, other companies etc than he does focusing on Apple's hardware.

Actually Tim Cook is a good visionary. I think the problem most people have with Tim is, that he is no real 'Tech' visionary, but more like a 'Lifestyle/Health' visionary. He is looking for ways to connect the everyday life more with tech in a healthy and green way. I think he has a pretty interesting vision and I support that vision. Caring about privacy that much and still trying to evolve tech is pretty hard, see Siri, who can't do anything, because Apple is not giving her enough of our privacy data. At least this is what I think.

Also I think Nintendo and Apple share quite a few similarities.

The other problem Nintendo faces is the perception that they only make games for children, which the gaming community pinned on them. Yes games like Mario, Kirby, Yoshi, etc are geared towards a more family orientated group, but it doesn't make them any less fun to play.

I'm a grown man playing Captain Toad Treasure Tracker for Wii U, they may have a cartoony art style but their games are flawless, more fun than many others intended for a "mature" audience.

Elon Musk...but he won't take over Apple obviously lol.

I have read so much on Musk, he has the passion for a project that only Steve had.

He isn't perfect, but one of my favorite people on earth at the moment.

Seems to me Cook has been chasing distractions because he doesn't even like what he does. I don't mean to say he doesn't work hard. But he is foreign to the league of leaders like Steve Jobs and Shigeru Miyamoto, visionaries driven by love, passion, who poured their souls into making their companies what they are today. Tim picked up a company with the momentum of a rocket mid-flight, and is working day and night to "optimise" and profit.

Think about it, and how it reflects on Apple's products. Cycle by cycle they have stabilised into rather basic, unsurprising consumer electronics. They can never reach Steve's level because there's just no love in making them. You could feel it with an iMac G4 or iPhone 4. Walk into an immaculate Apple Store now to be surrounded by rows of soulless gadgets signed off by a workaholic accountant with a thing for fitness.

Maybe the best thing Cook can do is indeed resign and pass Apple's reigns to someone with real love for technology, design and innovation.

I keep saying it, I think that Cook misunderstood his role.
Cook was chosen by Jobs to deliver what was most important after his death: continuity in business.
We all remember the feeling, the "without Jobs Apple is dead" mindset which somehow still lurks. Cook had to prove that thanks to process ability the company could not only survive but actually increase in profits. And truth be told, thanks to his organizational skill, Tim Cook did a great job. But now he's in an obvious plateau because his role is somewhat over.
Now that all the processes somehow work, and now that we all know that Apple can indeed survive without Steve it's time to bring the leader that the company needs.

Exciting! And cool to see these guys in the same room. What I would do to get a transcript of their conversations.

Official Transcript:
"What do you think?"
"We're going to be even richer! Ahahha"

Yeah same. Grew up on Nintendo games so I still enjoy their current offerings.
Speaking of Captain Toad - a game like that could easily work on touchscreen devices, similar to how Monument Valley plays.

I agree with you. Personally I'm not into first person shooter type games and if I play a video game I just want it to be fun rather than intense. Nintendo fits the bill perfectly for me.

Miyamoto is the ****, but Nintendo continues to block third parties from developing good games on their systems so they can sell more of their own proprietary games for maximum profit sans licensing fees. This generates cash in the short run but alienates large populations of gamers and developers in the long run. They've been doing this trash for years.

The NX (possibly Nintendo Duo according to recent rumors) will decide much of Nintendo's future, as another failure on the home console front may relegate them completely to handheld gaming, which is a market slowly being taken over by smartphones.

Nintendo knows their days are numbered within their current business model. It looks like they want a piece of the Apple pie in some capacity, especially considering their willingness to release a Mario game on iOS. Both parties could derive enormous profit from collaboration on a larger scale, but time will tell.

People around here don't know how a lot of things work.

Because you know what Tim Cook does with every minute of his day.

It's amazing how people can extrapolate 24 hours from a single publicity photo. Could be that five minutes later he was on his way to a supplier to look at and negotiate a deal for displays.
