the plan

I think apple has a development plan and are not going to stray from it. They (analysts) say one thing and are wrong 95% of the time. I have grown to embrace the "Wait and see" attitude. Apple doesn't care what the world wants. They make something and the world finds a use for it. Its always been that way. Samsung has the opposite approach. Market research along with corporate espionage has them throwing every product under the sun out at the world. wether its good or not. Samsung has become the cartoon version of ACME. Apple conversely has remained focused on a few products that can be used for many things.

I'm not surprised. I hope Apple keeps the Apple "TV" just a box, and focuses its time on new, more innovative products than a TV.

Seems to me the living room is ripe for innovation. Does Apple really want to cede that to Microsoft, Google or Amazon?

All this story tells me (assuming any of it is true) is Apple knows the issue isn't the interface UI but content. There's no point in bringing a TV product to market if you can't change the way people access and pay for content.

Introduction

Jobs clearly stated at all things D that the time for the TV would need an entry point for consumers/apple. Right now everyone has a tv. The next shift for TV purchases would be most likely when 4K becomes popular. Until 4K becomes more affordable, you will not see the Apple TV. Otherwise, if the introduced it now, sales of the apple tv would suffer giving a massive head start to competition to "catch-up" when consumers start buying new tv's.

It was told in black and white, the strategy for the introduction.

Rather than an actual Television set I'd prefer it if they turned the current AppleTV box into a mini projector. That way you could stream your iTunes content or games onto a wall or portable screen. There are plenty of add-ons and apps to allow you stream live TV to your iPhone or iPad so that wouldn't be a problem.

It would be ideal for the kids bedroom, students, frequent travellers, etc. If everyone started replacing those big heavy flat screen TVs with one of those that would really shake up the TV market. No need for a TV in every room, just pick it up and take it with you.

Or a projector on a phone!!

What? Samsung has already done that?:eek:

App store/SDK please

Echoing what others have said...I'd be much more interested in an updated Apple TV with an app store/game controllers than an iWatch or an Apple-branded television set.

OTOH, the current version still works just fine, and the longer they wait to update the hardware, the more value I get out of my existing investment. :)

That's all the world needs is another TV.

It's not like the build quality of Apple really matters in all of this. TV's are so cheap and stationary these days they last forever. Not sure what Apple has to offer here especially for a price that we could afford.

While I am disheartened at this news, it is the better business decision. One device per person vs. one device per family is better for the bottom line.

And as a consumer all we should care about is some mega corporation's bottom line? I'm missing something here. I guess I'm selfish, I care more about myself than I do about Apple, or Comcast, Verizon, etc.

That's my point. They can do everything you said with a set top box plugged into HDMI 1. They don't need to release a $2000 55" TV to change the way we access content. Or even the interface UI.

I don't understand this obsession about an Apple watch. I could care less and nothing that they come up with would entice me(or any of the members of my extended family) to buy one. Between us, there are 5 ATVs and we would all upgrade to a newer box. There's already a demonstrated demand for Apple TV, so why not pursue it?
